I just need a good Quality Movie, thats all...

Im not really to concerned about how many discs I need to view my movies because I have a DVD-Changer, and mainly because I just dont care.

I have been tinkering with the different KVCD Templates on TMPGenc to make SVCD's into KVCD format. And my Question to any who care to answer is:

What is the best Template to use if quality is all I care about?? I mainly convert what appears to be 480x480 movies. I was using the "KVCDx2-CQ-704x480-_NTSCFilm_-2CD.mcf" Format until I noticed that it has alot of BLOCKS that constantly show up in the picuture. So now I am trying out new templates and am not sure what I would want to go with my current preferences????

Note: I tried the same picture that was getting blocks all over the screen on the template: "KVCDx2-CQ-704x480-_NTSCFilm_-1CD.mcf" which did not yield any Blocks in the picture. So that would be fine, however I dont really understand the different between the -2CD template, and the -1CD Template???????? And if I were to go with the Template "KVCDx2-CQ-704x480-_NTSCFilm_-1CD.mcf" would this be the best I could use for my circumstances??

Thanks to any who can help!!!!!!!! :)

Hi Majik,
If you want absolute top quality, go for the 704x480 PLUS template.
If your DVD player supports high bit rates on MPEG-1, change the MAX bit rate on the template from 2,300 to 3000.
That should give you a blockless picture, even on very high action scenes.
This is the highest quality template ( for now  )

If it's a high action movie, you'll notice an increase in file size. If it's a low to medium action, the file size will stay the same, no matter if you increase to 3,000 of 10,000 because the encoder doesn't need high bit rate for the movie. So it doesn't use it.

I am trying one now with a bitrate max of 3000. Im curious tho, how will I know if my DVD player supports High Bit rates on MPEG-1? Will it suffer performance hits? Or just flat out not play the movie??

Sorry for the stupid question, but Im not to educated on this topic. :(

Thanks again! :)

Oh you'll see
If your DVD player starts to cough on high action scenes, youll know you exceeded the MAX bit rate
