A real speed test!

Look i know know encding time is ireleavnt for most of beacuse where all after quality yeah?im currenlty debating wether to buy an athlon64 or pentium 4 system. If kwag agress to host a small clip of his choice and well all try it out (usign the same settings of course!) and report back your hadware and software and encdoding time of fps in mencode-me.im sure the information recorded will be of some use.i saw a simillar thread over @ doom9 aboout cce speed.cmon guys spare a few minuter of your valuble time :D

Well, I'm not using MencodeME but PackShot (they both use MEncoder). And right now I'm doing an encode of "The Return of the King" at an AMAZING 30 fps on my AMD 2000+ 8O :!: (Thank you incredible  .)

PS It's a DVD encoding if anyone's interested...

150 users = 150 diff Hardware configuration = no way to compare anything.

End of the thread. Let children at doom9 play their games if they want, we have real work to do there.

My 2 cents.

true!
simple ilustrations about performance tests:
from time to time someone wants to do tests like that.
no matter if we have 2 equals pcs but if one have differents progs installed and without defrag, we will got differents performances...!

my word as technician: nothing is equal in performance, depend what is installed and how you use your pc.
2 pcs with same hardware but with differents systems have differents performances.
glent2k3,
i'm not against your idea but this tests are useless!

I think all he really needs is a little advice over which cpu to go for - ath64 or p4.

So how about a GENERAL opinion (rather than specific number speeds) of the two with mencoder (or general video work). I know p4 is better with photoshop (by quite a margin) - is it the same with mencoding?

64 bit hardware + 64 bit os + 64 bit software should be pretty fast.

glent2k3 05-27-2004 01:52 PM

 ok guys it wasnt the best idea in know .but thnx for your input.BTW after so ressarch im wating for a full relese of windows 64bit and wait to see what intel has up there sleave..should be intresting

On my P4 1.6 i'm getting about 30fps. On my P3 700 it's about 12fps.

The same I have on my P4 1.3Ghz.

You see, it's impossible to compare...

The speed is realy realy good. Some minutes I've at VCD resoltution 50fps 8O on my P4 2,54Ghz.

And with other resolutions not less than 25fps. :D
