Kwag,

Boy am I eager to check this out. Curious though. When I have used the other templates I have been checking the anamorphic output box when FitCD determines that the source is anamorphic. You have not (per your attached screen shot). Also, I usually use no cropping, but you have used accurate. Should this be the case with the new X3 template if one wished to retain the same AR as the source?

Thanks.

I never use anamorphic destination on KVCD's, because many TV's don't understand the aspect when playing from a VCD.
Try the other values as they are. You'll be surprised at the results. Like the sample provided

Hi kwag!

I've just tested your brand new templates on two standalone:

the mpeg2 one works very well on a cheap Cybercom 4931 and
the quality is very good.
On the some player the mpeg1 gives some troubles
(a copy shifted on the diagonal of the screen) only on
titles over black background playback.

Sadly enough when played on the Grundig GDV130 the some
clips are both scrambled blocks.

On the some player, the 704x576 'plus' template worked as DVD
(apart little sound problems then solved) but produced shifted copy
when played on the Cybercom 4931 I bought as bargain for my
parents!!

Hope this is useful for other people when choosing players.

Many thanks again for your work!

ciao
Ale

p.s.: your 'matrix' sample mpeg1 gives the same results:
plays very well on Cybercom and as a bunch of blocks
on the Grundig

Is there any REAL differance between the mpeg1 and the mpeg2 version besides the fact that one is mpeg2 and one is mpeg1? Will they both give the EXACT SAME outcome?

Use FitCD, and leave the templates full screen, as they are set.
The proper aspect is then provided by the FitCD script.

Quality wise, they're almost the same. File size is larger with the MPEG-2. About 1MB more per minute. So the MPEG-1 is the best for space savings.

....The average time per 80 minute CD-R is 60 to 65 minutes.

Just tested with a DVD-RAM VRO file and it played back great on a Panasonic E20, Panasonic LV55, Panasonic RV32 and a Pioneer DV343, JVC 36 standard TV and a Sony Rear Projection 61", picture was great. Started with Digital Cable, no changes were made to your template.

Aloha

Ditto on the GREAT picture with all the samples, all played back on my Panasonic LV55, Panasonic RV32, Panasonic E20, Pioneer DV343, Sony 61" Rear Projection TV, Standard 36" JVC. I just don't have any problems with any templates.

Tried in APEX 600A. MPEG-2, its playing but not aligned in TV showing only part of the picture and left half is hidden. Could it be due to no audio as I did not put audio in it?

MPEG-1 sample seems to play but I cant see it at all as its huge colored blocks in between some picture blocks. Donno why, can I do something here.

I will try again but as of now only SKVCD works in APEX 600A.

BTW, today I found that even SKVCD video skips now and then but not horrible like other formats.

Should we all try to stick with compatible DVD players, then.

hi KWAG

thanx for informing us about the new
x3 templates.

I took a look into the template and I wonder
why X=528 is choosen for Video.width.

All lower res X width are multiples of
32, so 320, 352, 480, 704 are all valid
sizes conforming to EIA or CCIR
standard. 528 is totaly undefined anywhere.

Maybe some S/A players will agree to work
but the more you stand appart to standards
to more likely you'll be left on your own
somedays.

So what's the resaon for X=528 ?

Obrigado

Bud,

The sample you played on the Pioneer 343, did you burn it as a VCD or SVCD?

I just tried the Matrix sample burned as an xVCD and I got the half screen effect.

There are a few reasons. First, the quality is superior to CVD and SVCD. So now we won't get comments such as "It's softer than a SVCD" from some people, because it's sharper than the best SVCD.
Second, the resolution is called 3/4 DVD. If you use FitCD, you'll see it in the aspects settings. Actually there are two: 3/4 DVD large, and 3/4 DVD small. The small ( 528x480 ) works best. I tried in all my 5 S/A DVD players, and plays flawlessly. As I commented earlier, even the Panasonic RP-56 plays the MPEG-2 version of the x3, burned as a SVCD .
And this player is not supposed to play SVCD. Actually, if you try to play a standard SVCD, it jumps and skips everywhere. The same applies to the Panasonic DMR-E20. This one, plays SVCD for like 2 seconds, then loops back and stays in a loop, playing the same section over and over again. But again, it plays the x3 correctly! Both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2.
Third, it's the best resolution/quality/bitrate combination of all. Lower resolutions you start to loose quality. Higher resolutions, you start to see some blocks on very high speed scenes. So really, this is the cross over point, or the peak resolution, in combination with the Q. Matrix and long GOP.
Fourth, I love non-standards ( Maybe that's why my favorite programming language is FORTH )

I de/remultiplexed the Matrix sample to SVCD with TMPGEnc and burned as SVCD with VCDeasy. This played on my pioneer 343 and looks really good.

So Kwag, are we better off encoding as mpeg 1 and then multiplexing to mpeg 2, or just use the mpeg 2 template?

Hi Pike,
For a quick and dirty test, just take any of the samples and re-encode it with the KVCDx2 MPEG-2 template
