Hi guys 'n' gals,
That's it
I think what we really need is a Newbie forum - all newbie questions answered! with 2 or 3 Moderators
doing gatekeeper to the rest of the forum.
The newbies would register and be able to browse the whole forum but they would only have permition to post
in the newbie forum, for say 3 or 4 weeks.
In the mean time we would need 2 or 3 super Mods that would be willing to help the newbies understand how the
forum is stuctured and where they can find answers to their questions besides using the search button.
After those 3 or 4 weeks they would be allowed to post wherever they which.
That would give us at least more clean forums because you can browse any of our forums and see a lot of newbies bumping threads 6 months old and even 1 year old.
These newbies, at least some of them, actually try to help the guy that started the one-year-old-post with
some advise of their own mostly from the MPEG-4 world .
Gimme your best IMHO

I don't think that is a good idea really.

1/ Newbies does not mean noobs. When I first logged on the board, I started immediatly to answer to people and asking very few questions.

2/ I personally HATE boards with this kind of "appartheid" : we are the gurus, we can speak, you are nothing, you just shut your mouth off and listen.
That is the Doom9 spirit and you can notice that you never saw me there !

Thanks for your opinion.

Absolutely right, you are.
Indeed I didn't think of that in the 1st place.

Calm down buddy. Just a wacky idea I had, that's all.
I am not a guru, and I don't want people to shut their mouth.
The way I was "seeing it", people would always be allowed to start making posts and asking for supermod where
they could find some more info on subject a or b or c.
Supermod would be there to answer to the question or to point the noob to the place where there is already an answer.
In the mean time, noobs would still be able to browse the whole forum.
It's just that to ask questions they would have to post it in the Newbie forum, that's all.
But I think we'dd better forget this method.
It really is not 100% fair.
Cheers all

Don't worry, I didn't say the "appartheid" spirit was yours. That's only the way I feel the things when I arrive on a board that use such rules

I have an idea

How about opening a forum, named: "Newbies Forum"
Just like Rui mentioned above.
But then, that forum will be locked, with a single post that says:

Please visit www.vcdhelp.com or www.digital-digest.com and then come back after you know the basics.

Would that be too strong

For some newbies the first site to read is a site where you learn... reading.

Send a message via ICQ to incredible
Well my experience on the MVCD Board was that the presence of a "real noob q's area" kept the further steps forums more clean. It makes sense, but only for some "reading" noobs which do exactly see its purpose.

Do you refer to that "smarty_123" or how was he called??

Hi Andrej ,
Yes, that's what I was trying to say.
But I went even further than that by saying that for a couple of weeks they would only be allowed to post there.
Yes, maybe if we open a Newbie forum and put it right on top of all forums, right after the disclaimer,
then we could keep the rest of the forums more neat & clean.

That's the main problem, I agree, and that's why I raised the 2-3 weeks "appartheid" thing .

Well, if you're addressing to me, yeah I was a bit pissed off with that guy.
But there are a lot of them coming everyday.
It's cool that we're raising in popularity but it's bad that it's getting very confusing also.
