MencodeMe obsolence and FreeEnc Forum

Hi my fellow moderators,

I am no longer planning to update MencodeMe. FreeEnc is a much better solution, because it uses Windows AVIFile reading routines, which are much more reliable the libavcodec for this purpose. Also there are much more filters and scripts available for Avisynth than the internal mencoder filters. Plus it integrates with DIKO perfectly (unlike MencodeMe, but I didn't design with this purpose of course) and I really want to focus on DIKO since it can really "take KVCD to the masses" while giving some finantial reward.

So I am suggested putting MencodeMe as "discontinued", locking its forum (like it was done with ACP and TOK), and creating a new FreeEnc forum (and moving all the FreeEnc related posts to this forum). Now that the P4 thing has been fixed and Inc is getting good results, I think we should focus on this one. Also because I'll only update the library once in a while (preferabilly in the official release if they don't take too long), this will help every to achive the same resuts.

Please share your oppinions in this.

HI V,
I backup your position.
Although MencodeMe is a great piece of utility, FreeENC seems to have a much better approach.
People can keep using avs scripts with FreeENC as opposed to MencodeMe and I think that's what makes the difference.
Although I feel nostalgic about it, I think you could stop MencodeMe development.
Cheers pal

Perharps it's a little too early to close the forum anyway. There are still people that use the tool and they won't switch to freenc in one day.

I do agree with Phil, as also many people dont want to switch over again to needed Avisynth filtering and forced avs input files.

I hink MencodeME is ok a it its now and most people anyway do tweak the commandline, means MencodeME is used as a "template" generator for commandlining enthusiasts.

I think you have a point, Dialhot and Inc. But what about a FreeEnc forum?

Would make sense to rename the forum "ffmpeg/ffvfw/ffshow"

to "ffmpeg/ffvfw/ffshow/FreeEnc" as all do base on ffmpeg/Libavcodec

... IMHO

Hi Inc,

I think FreeEnc deserves a separated forum (as there is a MencodeMe and PackShot forum) to avoid confusion about what's being used by the person posting.

I personally do have no problem with that ;-) I just thought about it as above as it does base on ffmpeg/libavcodec .... but youre right.

EDIT:
I moved the posts, thanks for the new forum. But looks like the forum got too "Free": FreeeEnc. Could please rename the forum, Karl? :D
