We have a worm!

There's a worm on the net, and it's trying to search our site.
Thankfully, because the forum needs users to be logged in, it can't do a thing :!:
Go to www.kvcd.net/forum and look at the "guest" users on line 8O
That's how many hits we're getting, and they all point to the log-in page, after I analyzed the statistics file.

And look at this here: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,119024,00.asp

My fault.
I heard about this worm 3 days ago and thought you were aware.

kwag 12-24-2004 09:34 PM

No problem :)
I was aware of it since yesterday. A friend sent me an E-Mail with the link I posted above.
But as I said, I guess the worm is harmless to us, because no anonymous robot can browse this forum :)

I think the worm is spreading now even more 8O
Look at the current user count on the forum 8O
I've upgraded the forum software to the latest version, which ensures that the worm won't affect it, but I see the number of "guest" users (actually worms) keeps increasing.
I know that google already blocks the worm, which was the way it targeted phpBB based boards, but maybe it found other search engines :!:

353 at this moment.

Well, right now, it's ~400 users on-line 8O and the forum is fine :!:
But I wish my provider would block these "spiders", unless the worm has spreaded to some other form.
The other day when I checked the logs, all hits were from a "User Agent" which was not IE or Mozilla based. So this could be quickly identified and blocked.
I'm not sure if that's the case now

The worm is active again :!:
I just patched the forum with a new update, so all should be back to normal in a matter of minutes. ( I hope 8O )

We're back to normal, from a guest (worm) count of over 900 8O
