PayPal rippers! BEWARE!!!!
If you receive an E-Mail asking you to update your account, BEWARE.
I'm used to this, so I know how to tell a scam from reality. I just go an E-Mail, supposedly from PayPal, asking me to update my account. The link reads like a valid PayPal link, until you put the mouse over the link, and then it shows this: http://www.eun.eg/.ssl/index.html If you visit that link, you will see that it looks EXACTLY like PayPal's web site. Go ahead and log in with ANY email address and ANY password BUT NOT YOURS The site will take you to your "supposedly" account page, and after you enter your information, WHAM!!!!!, they got your credentials!!!, and then they redirect you to the original PayPal address. I just wonder how many hundreds of people fall into this scam, and actually enter their personal information :roll: Just wanted everyone to be aware. -kwag |
Thanks Karl :D.
Terrible thing these scams to earn easy money out of honest people :-( But if authorities know - and they do Know - about these sites, why won't they put them off? This is what makes people like me very much affraid of paying something on the Internet... Again, thanks for the tip ;-) Cheers |
@Kwag,
I'm an EBay Seller and wasn't aware of this until now. I'll be sure to keep a sharp lookout for this and other scams. :) Thanks -BP |

@Karl
Thanks for the heads up. :D I came across a similar problem with eBay. I buy stuff of eBay quite a bit and one time I received an e-mail to update my account. I clicked on the link and knew straght away it was dodgy as the http address started with an IP address as opposed to the secure eBay cgi normal address. It wanted asked to me enter my eBay details so I did then it asked for my credit card details, now not even my bank would send me a mail to ask for that! So I closed the window, quickly logged onto eBay and changed my password to stop my account being hijacked and then reported the site to eBay via e-mail. I now have the eBay toolbar with has the Account Guard and will tell you if you are not on a legimate eBay site and has a button to report that site to eBay. You have to be very careful these days and like you said Karl, I wonder how many people fell for that scam. :( |
Not sure if it's a global term, but here in the UK, this is known as PHISHING.
Live by the golden rule that no-one who deals with your money will ever contact you in such a way by email and you won't go wrong. :P I regularly dismiss this stuff and don't give it any thought. If you need any confirmation, whichever company is claiming to contact you via email - then just log on to their regular site as normal and they should ask you for the same info there. At least that way you know you are definitely being asked by the correct source. |
Concerning Phishing, this tool can be helpfull to prevent you from beeing abused :
