I just got done watching Friday After Next myself! Pretty funny. Not sure which of the 3 is my favorite though....guess I'll just count them all as one.

How about Colors! I think that movie sorta sticks out (in my mind at least) as paving the way for those that have already been listed here (well, if you don't count the early 80's breakdancing movies with their "gang" rivalry dance-offs ...or some of the blaxploitation flicks of the 70's). Colors also helped boost Ice-T's rap career in the beginning...I've always liked that theme song.

Yes, this is a real movie title for those who haven't seen/heard of it! If you've seen all these 'hood movies, you'd probably get a kick out of it.

yeah boy,,,colors kicked azz....not only the careers of ice-t, but also damon wayans, gerardo, don cheadle,,and many others.
I wouldnt really call what maria conchita alonso does--acting, per se.

The very first hood flick (no i dont mean West Side Story or The Outsiders....though The Outsiders was an excellent movie too...Stay golden ponyboy... ) was Boulevard Nights.

If you ever get a chance to watch it, it brings the hood into your living room. I remember going to the theatre in L.A. , not too far from where they filmed it, to watch it. Blew me away because we saw on screen what we would see n live each day outside of the theatre.

Others that come to mind are, American Me, Road Dogz, King Rikki, Outta Time, Dangerous Minds kind of, Eastside, & 187.
