One of our large customers cancelled one of our contracts ( a ~10 year contract), because PCS and Cellular technology has taken over the business just about everywhere, leaving the paging marked in the past ( I've been in the paging business for ~20 years now )
Last friday, I went to shut down one machine at one of our customer's site, because they dropped complete support on paging, and they now concentrate strictly on Cellular market. I did take a snapshot to a log file of the "up time" of the machine running our paging system software, just before I shut down the machine. Don't even think about having this "up time" on a Windows machine

# dmesg
OpenBSD 2.6 (****) #0: Sat Apr 29 15:59:29 AST 2000
Fri May 9 14:29:19 EST 2003
........
# uptime
2:29PM up 785 days, 3:43, 1 user, load averages: 0.06, 0.08, 0.08

Still, I feel very good for providing a piece of software that has performed for so long on a system, without any problems at all That's what Unix does
Don't you wish your WinDoZe machine would behave like that

sorry to hear about the contract. hopefully you charged a penalty for breaking the deal or a buyout of some kind. i won't do anything unless its in writing with deals spelled out clearly. first n last month's rent kind of thing.

personally i just cancelled my pager last month too. i've had it since 1989, with the same provider too.....

That's a shame about the cancellation of the pager contract. I wish so much that cell phones would become banned and if you saw the way people drive around here you'd understand why

There's not an emoticon nasty enough to describe my hatred for cell phones Sorry to go off on a tangent 785 days uh? Not bad!

I got's me a cell but when i drive i wear my earpiece or use the 'handsfree'.... but yeah its easy to lose track,,,, almost got hit one time from this person cutting three lanes,,while talking on the phone, putting her make up on, filing her nails, kvcd'ing, changing her oil, putting on pantyhose, making dinner, and she still had the nerve to check her email ...all while changing lanes....
