I wish there was. I posted the following on Sunday and although Kwag responded saying to use the MPEG2 template, it has caused other problems which I am hoping somebody will take an interest in helping me in.
Well. I followed the conversion guides on this site. Used a 98 minute avi file to convert to a KVCD. Image and audio are great quality, but when I play it on my Pioneer 343 the image is on the left side of the screen.

The source AVI file is as follows:
640x256
23 frames per second
Xvid
98 minutes, 136kbps

I have now used the MPEG2 SVCD template for TMPGEnc and it seems to have corrected the left hand side issue, but now I'm faced with a totally new situation.

I frameserved this file through Vdub and when I was finished, it plays back on my Pioneer DVD but about 4/5ths of the way through it becomes distorted, green macro blocks everywhere, skipping, split screen. It seems to go crazy then corrects itself momentarily then starts all over. I would assume that by using Vdub to frameserver it would correct any bad frames or simply omit them. I have also played the same file with Vdub on my PC and there is no problem at all. Is this a problem with the file or maybe an overburn issue? What would cause this?

We are sorry for not having the solution for all problems nor answers for every question. :x

Overburn problems appear at 99% of the film, not 4/5ths. It's more probably a "too fast burning" problem.
KVCD have to be burnt a 4x MAX ! Even if some will tell you they do theirs at 16x or more.

Note : Vdub doesn't skip by itself bad frames, you have to use the appropriate entry in its menus.

Bad media can cause that too. I always get the FujiFilm's now. Also make sure the cd is clean.

Uhhhh.....basically every forum here is a help forum. If you've got questions, just ask them in the forum that seems the most relevant and someone will surely try to help you out (as you've now seen in this very thread). :wink:

I'm sorry if I sounded rude, but I wasn't trying to be. I'm just a little frustrated is all. I appreciate the feedback. I think I might have licked the problem, although by chance, as I'm not too sure what I did to correct it.

If anyone still reads this thread, I'm wondering if there are any good guides here for converting CG animation movies (not cartoons) to KVCD?
As I understand it, these types of movies are a little tricky.

CG animation movies (Final Fantasy, Monsters Inc, etc) should probably be treated just like any other clean dvd source (unlike older cartoons/anime, CG is very clean)...you'd use the current Optimal Script and the same methods as described by any of the relevant guides available here. You really shouldn't need to lower the GOP since this is recommended mainly for standard 'toons...but you can certainly do a comparison with your own eyes if you're not satisfied with the quality you get using the standard kvcd GOP...filesize will increase though, so it's up to you whether or not it's worth it.

This issue has been discussed here a few times before....doing a search for "cg animation" turned up a number of hits, including this one: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....t=cg+animation which basically repeats everything I just quoted from memory, so this must be the exact thread I was thinking of! The Search button found at the top of the page is quite a handy-dandy tool indeed! :wink: As Obi-Wan Kenobi might say, "Use the search Luke....always". :litesbr: (Yes, I know, I know...I'm a geek :lol: ).
