I don't watch movies. Actually I watch average 1 movie per month. I hate it when I see on the streets and everywhere how the movies affect people's lives. I pity the people with big dreams, created by watching too many movies, and then destroyed in the real life. And I pity the people who fear some things that exist only on the screen. And I also pity the housewives who watch talkshows and serials beacause their own life is totally boring. There are persons who act like some famous actor or TV-star and they look really funny to me.
The TV attacks us straight after our birth and there's not much we can do about it. It's damn hard to stay unaffected.
Especially the Holywood production is total brainwashing for me. On the other side the european movies are crap (excluding some comedies). These are the reasons I don't like movies. Anyone here feeling the same way?

Damn Ed,
you could be the next governor of caulifornia.

So is it life imitating art or art imitating life, or art imitating life imitating art?
Hollyweed according to some think tanks, sell out for $'s and for ratings.
And some use hollyweed as a staircase to politics.
I like movies, lov them, specially on dvd. They provide an escape for a brief moment. However, I watch everything from Sixteen Candles, Old School, to Swingers, to Chicago, to Schindler's List, to indie cult stuff like Clerks, Compadres, Mi Vida Loca, love british gangster films: The Italian Job-1960's, Gangstah movies (i.e. Blood In Blood Out, Casino, or shows like The Sopranos, etc...) to documentaries on Aliens, Egypt, Atlantis, etc...
to flix that make one think e.g. Pie, The Sixth Sense to Bend It Like Beckham, The Guru, Amores Perros, etc...etc... i just happen to enjoy all kinds, {i've even seen some bombs, from indie directors to hollyweed,,
for example Gigli-- dont ask , } as well, i enjoy all kinds of music from new country to rap, to soul, to merengue to pop, to 80's Metal, to classical music, to R&B to disco, to surf rock, to oldies {pre-brit invasion} to rockabilly and to big band/swing/new swing i.e. BBVD.
Guess the whole point is to provide entertaiment and not to take it too seriously. Once the credits roll, movie's over--back to reality.
Mind you though, after watching The Fast & The Furious I - doing donuts in the mall parking lot was fun!!!!!

There's probably more damage being done by shows like Paternity King-Maury, Riki Lake, Dr. Phil, Howard Stern, (K, i like howard--he rocks ), and Jerry Springer...
Mind you though, one of my favorites right now is CSI-Vegas and some {CSI-Miami}, imo it kickz azz.

On the flipside, when was the last time we sent in a donation to
privately funded community stations that support healthy tv programming
for children...etc...

zTr...

Uhhhhhhm.....Edlund, buddy......you do realize the website whose board you've just posted your mini-rant on, right? This is kvcd.net! We love our stinkin' movies! Just kiddin' pal. But I gotta agree with 8ball and zTr.....I'd have to venture that the majority of kvcd.net's visitors do thoroughly enjoy their "brain candy" (movies)....though I can certainly understand/agree with some of your sentiments. (For me) Movies are mainly an entertaining little escape from reality (afterall, I'm never going to the moon and Julia Roberts is never going to fall in love with me either....at least, not that I know of :P ).....people who can't distinguish between reality and make-believe obviously have larger underlying problems than just movies or television.

If you haven't seen them already, you might consider choosing 1984 or Equilibrium as your next monthly rental...based on your post, I think you might dig 'em. Of course, you might also enjoy Red Planet or Pretty Woman (as long as you take 'em at face value for what they are).

Regards,
-d&c

Yes, I know that 99% of the people here are doing KVCDs with movies, but I am doing KVCDs with concerts and I wonder if someone here is doing this too As far as I've read Jorel's postings he is deeply into music.

But on the whole, who would you trade with? The Iraquis? The Germans?
The Swedish? The English? The French?
The nationality doesn't matter for me in this occasion, it's up to the person that I trade with.

The more advanced the culture, there more options there are for the people. The more "successful" the nation, the more creature comforts the masses have at thier disposal.
Yes, I really appreciate the comforts that are available to me but am not sure if everybody "in the western society" does this too. I mean that everybody has his own problems.
But the point of the topic was: Don't you think that the movies affect everybody's life, haven't you seen the influence of the movies?

P.S. About the watching of "Fast and furious" - I heard yesterday that according to a statistic Bulgaria has 3 times more car accidents than in other european countries

Well EightBall, you did put it in better words now...

I believe you that you didn't mean to offend anyone, and I don't feel offended by you. Sorry for misunderstanding your post. I guess I was just very tired when I read it...

Please accept my apology for not being a smarter reader!

My friend,

Your posts speak for themselves. I have absolutely no doubt that this is all a silly misunderstanding. I wrote weakly, you misunderstood my intentions as a result of it. I regret posting it.

I'm only too glad I haven't lost a friend.
Thanks for all the help to me and others.

your "BUDDY"

Eightball
