<Purrrrs around glänzend's ankles - all is forgiven!! >

Birmans were actually temple cats, originally worshipped (over 3500 yrs ago), then as humans priests took over and wanted to be worshipped, they were made temple guardians.

Birmans have similar (almost exact same) colours as siamese - we are skinny-ish, but have very very thick fluffy fur (it's a double fur - our undercoat is long too). The main colour difference is we have socks on our feet the same colour as our face cross (depends on if we're sealpoint/ bluepoint, lilacpoint).

We have a rich, deep, throaty PURRRRRR, and extreeeeemely loving natures.
We tend to talk in "Mrrrrr?" type sounds rather than "Meeoww!" (like siamese do, the complainers!!)

(This one, Casey, needs to be shaved each early summer - cost me $550 to have a stomach furball blockage removed last year - damn he looks funny with his skinny body and bif fluffy boofy head!!!

You can't laugh at him tho - he goes all shy and 'peculiar')

Oi

So I read, I found very interesting that according to legend the Birman (Sacred Cat of Burma) was revered in its native land because people there believed that the souls of departed priests returned to their country's temples in the guise of pure-white Birman cats. (That must be a beautiful sight)

One of the temples where the sacred cats lived was Lao-Tsun in western Burma between China and India. I think this is fascinating, but I also read that probably the mates that joined forces to create the Birman were Siamese cats and longhair, bicolored Angoras. The former contributed genes for blue eyes and dark markings on the extremities, (that may acount for the temper too)
*looks out to see that no one laughs at Casey*
While the Angoras contributed genes for long hair and white spotting that's confined to the feet and hind legs. I heard that there is really no proof of it so, in the mean time, Casey is safe in saying HE descends from royalty!

Ciao

Hey,
Even I don't like cats and I find that FluffButt of your's a real sweet pet.
That ain't gonna change my opinion on cats but take it as a complement
