Does ripping dvds damage them in any way?

I wasn't really sure where to post this but I have a question about ripping DVD's. Does ripping them damage them in any way because the last few DVD's I've ripped have come out slightly scratched.

Hi Paul0889
No :D , not at all :!:
"Ripping" is just "Reading" the DVD at a very high speed. There is no physical contact from the DVD to any part that can damage your disk. It's an optical read operation, no matter if you are playing the DVD or "ripping" it
