Almost bought a dvd writer yesterday!

I almost got the Pioneer AO5 DVD-RW but didn't because it doesn't do DVD+R. How much of a concern is the compatibility of the DVD-R media? Should I get one that does both +/-?

Thanks,
ren

Hi ren,

If you can, go for the Sony DRX-500UL
It's a DVD+-RW/+-R/CD
It's an external model, with USB-2.0 and FireWire connections. I use mine via USB-2.0, and I burn DVDs at 2x in ~27 minutes
Right now, It's the best drive in the market :D

Got it here locally at "Computer House".
But they jacked up the price :x, so I would suggest you buy it via mail order. The price in the states is ~$420.00 for the external drive and ~$350.00 for the internal drive.

Hi Ren

I have the A05 and am very happy with it, everything I have will play the -R format and i am yet to hear a good reason to have both but if you need it apparently the new A06 will be dual format as well. Both also write DVDs at 4x (full DVD in 15 mins) :D

kwag 06-15-2003 10:44 PM

I forgot to mention that the Sony does write DVD-R at 4x, but on my cheap media, it writes at 2x. Also it writes DVD+R and DVD+RW at 2.4x, CD-R at 24x and CD-RW at 10x.

I guess I'm gonna wait awhile longer for the dvd writer (unless I have too strong of an impulse  ) I got something much better though- a super comfy office chair  It goes up, down, forward, back, swivels, adjustable arm rests; sitting in this chair with my high velocity fan blowing air in my face while I'm kvcd'ing- I'm in heaven :!:

I"ve been thinking about a dvd writer, but also am going to wait. It's not the cost of the player that scares me away, but the media. A DVD-r is 1.50 to $2 a pop.

CD-R are 10 cents and sometimes free if you keep an eye out for rebate deals. I give it another year or two and the media and drives will be more reasonable.

That will be too easy!

Sure I could just buy a Dodge Viper but it takes all the fun out of trying to work on my old Chevy and tweak a little more performance out of it?

I don't actually have an old Chevy anymore so now getting video on to CD-R is the challenge. Having a DVD-R eliminates the need to tweak as hard?

What will I do will all my freetime? :?

@rendalunit
Mayby you should look at LG GSA-4040B DVD±RW/DVD±R DVD-RAM Drive. I'm hungry on this one because of flexibility, and furthermore it cost in my country less than 200$ :rotf:
