I bought this computer 3 years ago and it is well outdated but i want to know if a dvd rom would work with this computer.
Code:
processor AMD Duron™ processor 900MHz Now back to the question io want to get a simple 50 dollar dvd rom at walmart, not to play movies on the computer but to back up dvd's to make kvcd's with Will it work Thanx |
Hi bigggt,
Just about any new IDE DVD ROM on the market should work. You shouldn't have any problems. -kwag |
Also, most drives specify their minimum system requirements right on the box, so you really should have no worries.
$50 does seem a tiny bit steep to me for a dvd-rom drive these days though (especially if all you really want it for is extraction of pressed dvds), so you might want to shop around a bit. It seems like every few weeks I see adds for cheapie 16x dvd-rom drives for ~ $10.00 (or even $0.00!) after rebates at stores like OfficeMax, Staples, Best Buy, etc (in US). So if you've got the canadian equivalent to one of these types of chains nearby, you might be able to save yourself a few dollars (to put towards your future PC  ). Happy hunting, -d&c |
Thanx Guys
I was just at walmart and seen it i haven't shopped around(i thought 50 bucks was cheap  ) We do have staples and best buy so i will shop around Thanx Again |

You wouldn't happen to be near the border by any chance, would you bigggt? 8) OfficeMax has an 8x DVD+RW burner on sale this week for $69.99 after rebates. I think that's the lowest price I've seen so far for an 8x dvd burner (although I'm personally still planning on waiting for them to reach current 52x cdrw prices before buying one, which would mean $0 - $30 after rebates...so I've got a bit more waiting to do  ). But if you're willing to pay ~$50CDN for an ordinary dvd-rom drive, then ~$90CDN for an 8x dvd burner doesn't seem like such a far leap. Just a thought. Regards, -d&c |
Thanx guys,i actually seen the dvd rom at walmart for 50 bucks a while ago on sale and looked around today and now its 69 bucks at walmart, and 79 at radioshack and 79 bucks at staples :x
@ d&c im actually 30 minutes away from a border :D ,that dvd burner sounds like a great price, but i will probably waity for the new computer for a dvd burner, but i might get a dvd rom there for pretty cheap.I was at staples in the US just after Christmas and they had one for 20 bucks after rebates(don't think i would be able to get the rebates though). Thanx again fellas |
I just yesterday encountered a problem with my generic dvd-rom- it wouldn't read a dvd. The dvd has what seems to be a very light coating of reflective material on the back (you can practically see through it). My other dvd-rom (Hitachi) can read it ok
