Compatibility of home burned DVDs in set top DVD Players?
 

I haven't done alot of research on this, but I've found that when I burn a DVD-R using Roxio, older (over 1 year old, I guess), basic DVD players can't read the disk.

But I have no problem playing that same DVD in my computer or in the cheapo $50 player I got from Radio Shack last Christmas.

It was my understanding that DVD-R is the most compatible.

What's the story? I'm going to poke around on the web some more and will post finding here.

Hello Lumsmore.
There should be no difficulties at all trying to read a KDVD on a standalone dvd player.
Well if it is DVD-/+R compatible, that is ;-)
So check your player on videohelp.com SAP database to see if it can read DVD-/+R.
Other than that you're looking at a media problem or burning software problem.
I would start by investigating the later one ;-)

Use DVD Identifier on the media you use and report the code here. I suggest a media issue, they are very common with cheaper discs.

I did some tests about a year ago when I was doing VHS to DVD conversions for some extra money. Ritek was the most compatible brand. I used RITEKG03 at that time.

CMC is not a very good manufacturer so that might be the issue.

So Memorex rebrands CMC disks? I was duped by brand marketing... :(

Memorex doesn't manufacture any discs. They just buy them and sell them as their own. This is very common, there's hardly any manufacturer with their own brand, in fact, Fuji is the only one that comes to mind.
