Kwag, thanks for the new v.2 compatibility test disc! As an interested kvcd onlooker (and soon to be creator), I've downloaded many stray samples in the past, but always thought it'd be nice to have a more standardized way to compare the results of different templates. I especially like how you used the same exact clip and script for each sample. Now if only someone would post a few PAL resolution samples and Mpeg1-Muxed-as-SVCD samples, then
everyone would be set I think. Just kiddin' man....have a beer!
It never ends, does it Kwag!?
I burned the new compat cd in nero and tested in 3 different dvd players: Apex 1010W, Sampo DVE-631CF, and RCA 5240-P.
- Apex 1010W:
plays every clip flawlessly! (not bad for a $50-$60 player!).
Sampo DVE-631CF:
ULBR= plays flawlessly
LBR= plays flawlessly
352x240Plus= plays flawlessly
sidenote: past SKVCD clips I've downloaded have played flawlessly in this player as well.
352x480Plus= plays, but video is jerky & skips...looks "slow-mo" & "fast-forward" at times. occasional audio dropouts.
704x480Plus= plays, but shows same problems as 352x480Plus sample, only worse. same audio dropouts.
KVCDx3-528x480= video is a garbled mess on upper 2/3 of screen...looks like 4 pictures merged into one or something. but audio plays fine with no dropouts.
RCA 5240-P:
same positive & negative results as the Sampo DVE-631CF, only without any audio dropouts anywhere.
A question to anyone:
My main player is the Sampo DVE-631CF (it's a great player, but was recently discontinued...btw, I highly suggest checking out area450.com to anyone interested in seeing how truly versatile this player is...including adding a hard-drive to it!). It plays VCD, XVCD, SVCD, CVD, miniDVD and raw MPG fine, so frankly, I find it a bit surprising that it chokes on
any of the kvcd templates. But for those templates that it
does choke on, based on my descriptions above, does anybody have any ideas how I might fool them into working? Does it seem a good candidate for the Mux-as-SVCD trick? Thanks.
