Problems during SVCD Playback

Ok, I have a 3 part SVCD. It appears to be in PAL format (480 x 576). I can watch each of these three parts fine on my PC, although without maximizing the picture I notice that the letterbox bars are larger than normal. So I tried to burn the first .mpg file as a SVCD in nero and play it on my Pioneer 444 Set top player (which plays everything). I can hear the sound perfectly, it displays the picture black and white, and has vertical tracking problems.. IE: the picture infiniately scrolls down quickly over and over again so you cant see it.

So I tried the DOOM9 guide on how to convert SVCD to DVD. I combined all three .MPGs into one big one. The big one plays fine on the computer. I do a simple demux in TMPEG, then alter the horizontal resolution to 352 as stated in DVDPatcher, re-encode the audio, author the dvd using SpruceUp. Convert the .VOB files back to 480 as stated in the doom9 guide in DVDPatcher and burn the dvd. It comes to the main menu of the dvd that I just authored, but I have the same vertical tracking problem in only black and white. I have burned so many dvds in my time and never have I seen one do this.

How can I fix these SVCDs so they will play?

D,

Did you have to or did you enable pal (or auto) playback on your dvd player? Mine is set to Auto, so if I play a PAL dvd or svcd, it plays fine on my (ntsc) tv.

What settings did you enable in DvdPatcher 352 x 480 or 352 x 576?
and then did you change it back to 480x480 or left it as 480x576?

If it was left at 352x576 (or brought back to 480x576), in dvdpatcher, it may have retained its pal properties...

I changed the format to 352x576 and then back to 480x476 later. When I try to change the vertical resolution, DVDPatcher basically tells me that that's not a good idea, and then afterwords, Spruceup didnt list it as a valid format so it wouldnt import the video. Regardless, it seems that the same problem happens when making a SVCD without changing it to a DVD, so I dont really think it has anything to do with the formatting I chose. I will check my dvd player and see if there is a PAL/NTSC setting, but I dont think i saw one when I checked last time. Is this sort of problem usually related to a PAL/NTSC mixup?

D,
when changing it back did you reset it to 480x476 or 480x576?
(typo?).
From my experience it can be a pal/ntsc issue.
You could try transcoding it to 352x480 using something like
ReMpg, if dvdpatcher complains of the 480*576 resolution.
I guess if you noticed any synch issues with the audio after
using rempg, u could transcode/reencode with tmpgenc with
an ntsc template.

Yeah sorry I meant 576. Just that when i changed the format to 352x480 to try and make it NTSC, SpruceUp wouldnt import the video, thus I couldnt finish up the DVD files.
