Panasonic Rv32 - SVCD can Work Without VCD Header Trick

I have the RV32 and access to an RV31
The RV32 says it can do SVCD, and does work with the VCD header trick.
The RV31 cant do SVCD but it will work with the VCD header trick.

I have tried just about every combination of to get SVCD to work,
Today I found one that worked perfectly

1. TMPGenc Mpeg tools

MUX the .m2v and .mp2 as MPEG2 PROGRAM stream instead of MPEG2 SCVD stream.

2. VCDEasy
Create SVCD 1.0 and add your .mpg, it will tell you that it will autopad the file on the fly.
Burn the CD

3. RV32
Put SVCD in player and enjoy


I don't think that this is a perfect solution
Because if I understand this right, the .mpg stream is padded
when it muxed, and then padded again by VCDEasy
which did increase the file size a lot
So it is possible that a rip might not fit in certain cases

Next, I am going to see what I can do with bbmpeg
to mux a mpeg2 stream and/or mpeg2 scvd stream
hopefully that works, I'll post back what I find

I have the RV31 (US Version) and have been unsucessful getting the header trick working for SVCD. Could you point me to the correct method to do this or please explain it to me how to do the header trick that will work with the Panasonic RV31.

If you have an existing svcd, kvcd (mpeg2), ...

1
If the mpeg was already on a cd,
use VCDGear to extract the file correctly

2
use TMGEnc mpeg tools and De-Multiplex the mpeg

3
then TMGEnc mpeg tools and Multiplex a new mpeg,
using MPEG1 Video CD ( Non-Standard)

4
use VCDEasy or Nero to burn the mpeg as a VCD
but you must select in either program to accept the file as is
do not let it change the file or it wont work

I am currently using tmpgenc 2.510, 2.59 has multiplex issues
The above method has never failed me yet,
on the RV31 and RV32 ( US Versions )

mpegs that I have encoded with KWAG's templates
have all worked if I use the VCD header trick
or mpeg1 non standard

I'll give it a shot. So you use TMPGEnc to Multiplex. I thought BBMPEG was the way to go. I might not have been letting VCDEasy to burn it without changing it.

I have been using TMPG to mux with the vcd header trick,
but have been looking to a reason to play with bbmpeg

I found my reason, to make svcd work on the rv32

I was able to get BBMPEG to create a correctly muxed SVCD mpeg
made from a KVCD3 mpeg2 template
So now I don't have to worry about a huge file increase
caused by muxing an mpeg2 stream and then padding it to svcd
with vcdeasy

I'd like to attach a pic of the settings, but ...
So here are the settings I used that worked

I did some more thinking and experimenting

KVCD3 MPEG2 is used for most of my encodes,
and I remembered that one of the setttings in the TMPG templates
was that the VBV buffer in TMPG was set to 40 which is for VCD.
I have read that 40 is for VCD, 112 for SVCD, and 224 for DVD

That got me thinking about the Buffer Sizes Video setting in BBMPEG,
and that it is using 46 for VCD, 230 for SVCD, 46 for MPEG1 and 224 for MPEG2.

I am making a wild guess that these settings must be very closely related.
So I created a standard SVCD using TMPG included template with a VBV of 112
Then I muxed the m2v and mp2 with BBMPEG changeing Buffer Sizes Video setting to 46
and burned it with VCDEasy
Well what do you know, it worked perfectly, phew!

It looks like Panasonic's firmware cant handle a 112 buffer for SVCD
but can handle a 40 VCD buffer just fine for SVCD when multiplexed

I hope this helps anyone with a Panasonic RV32

Hi Racer99,

I have RV31 US version too. If you find any information and/or method
how to make SVCDs that will play on our players please let me know.
All that I've got for now is here.

Take a look at Mr. Juco's post. Maybe this will work. I was trying few
different ways to make SVCD and all of them were unsuccessful. I can
see the SVCD but on small ~0.5 sec steps.

...drag into compilation...THEN right-click on it, "properties", and in the drop-down menu for "Scaling Method" select "Scale and Fit"...(I learned the hard way why shouldn't use "maximize (default) the pixels are a hell of a lot bigger...)

4. By now you should have noticed that the file probably doesn't fit...SO, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU now click file, compilation info...then in the "encoding bitrate" box (where 'try to fit.." is selected) click "user defined" and in the drop-down menu change it to "225kb/s"..(I hear anything higher will cause probz)...the click ok..."refresh compilation" if you have to...then burn!!!!

The encoding takes about an hour and a half for me (4x/4x/8x)...so I haven't attempted anything faster than quad speed...I do hear the slower the better....uhhh, just click through any nero messages (happens occasionally) and make sure you are around to pop in a fresh cd!!!! e-mail Jucuco@aol.com for ques...PLEASE POST RESULTS OF DVD-R..-RWs...I am getting a Pioneer av-04 pretty soon.

I would reccomend that you use TMPGenc MPeg Tools to De-Mux the .mpg into .m2v and .mp2, and Re-Mux them as MPeg1 (Non-Standard)

If that doesnt work I would use TMPGenc MPeg Tools to De-Mux the .mpg into .m2v and .mp2, and use BBMPEG to Re-Mux them as VCD.

I have had better luck with TMPGenc for the VCD Mux

I have yet to have one fail to work on an RV31

You can use VCDEasy or Nero to burn them, both have worked well for me
