I hear a lot about kVCDs not being compatible with some DVD players. But is the KDVD template one that is comptible with every DVD player ? I know it is a DVD compliant file, but does that mean all players will play it ?

If so then how does it manage such great quality with so much less size ?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Hi Jon Read,

KDVD templates produce 100% DVD compliant MPEG-2 files, with the added bonus of KVCDs Q. matrix
You can fit up to ~6 hours with the Full D-1 template and up to ~9 hours with the Half D-1 template with excelent quality on one DVD(+-)R

I use KDVD exclusively for my Cyberhome and Apex players, as all the KVCD formats produce jerky motion or blocking. I use Kwag's optimal script for DVD, mux the TMPGEnc output with BBMPEG as DVD (not SVCD) and burn as SVCD with Nero. I have no problem with playback on either the computer or the two players. I tried all the KVCD templates with little success, but KDVD allows Kwag's outstanding efforts to become very evident and overcomes the weakness in both players. The Cyberhome will even play KDVD at 528x480 muxed as DVD, although the APEX requires compliant formats.

For SVCD

Decrypt with Decrypter
AVI2DVD (I use Telecide/Decimate rather than ForceFilm)
Encode in TMPGEnc with KDVD full (predict, of course)
Mux in BBMPEG as DVD as 699 size files (I use defaults with Headac2he MP2 file)
Burn in Nero as SVCD

The only difference in the normal process is muxing as DVD, not SVCD with BBMPEG.

For CDVD (miniDVD) (not all players will read DVD formats on CD's)

Decrypt with Decrypter
AVI2DVD (I use Telecide/Decimate rather than ForceFilm)
Encode in TMPGEnc with KDVD full (predict, of course)

Mux in BBMPEG as DVD 699 size files (I use defaults with Headac2he MP2 file)
(I do this to let BBMPEG create 2 mpg files)

Author each mpg with TMPGEnc Author
Create image files with ImgTool
Burn with Nero as CD image file

Good luck! My wife and I lived in Rio for a year and a half about 6 years ago. Unbelivable beaches and living scenery.
