KVCD AD-600A and possible solution for the jerky video?
My DVD model is the AD600A. Figured I'll just try the KVCDx2 and crossed my fingers. Now, as most everyone already knows; this DVD player does 352x480 but with jerky video (speeds-up a bit every few seconds, plays normal, speeds up, etc.) and to correct this jerky-ness you must go down to 352x240 and the video will then play smooth.
So I pulled out my kids dvd of rugrats and encoded with KVCDx2 anp afterwards put it in the player. no go try the PBC OFF button on the remote as sugested by another user. nada try playing with the other setings in the menu. silch press the button to change to pal display turns to grey scale and .... ooHHHoooooOOOO!!! PLAYS SMOOOOTH-LY!!!!! So my question is can we use this to our advantage, like, maybe another change in the vertical resolution or something? Maybe Kwag can answer this one. :) |

Did you try the KVCD template ( 352x480 ) to see if it plays also? If it does, you've found the cure for the AD600A! kwag |
No...
sad to say that the display is gray scale or black and white and my system is NTSC. I tried another method, (can't remember the poster's name) where you change it to mpg2 and enable 3:2 PULDOWN WHEN PLAYING A short test file indicated that this fixes the jerking problem. So I do the whole DVD. movie rugrats.i.p. mpg1 698,754,756 bytes mpg2 719,034,372 bytes So I can live with the difference, still fits on one cd. By the way, the mpg2 file must be burned as SVCD even with the 704x480 resolution. will do more test to see what happens. |
I had tht problem before. I was using 352 X 480. The movement was jerky just like you said. I went to 352 X 240, played smoother, but became somewhat blocky, not what I wanted. Since my Apex plays all region VCDs and SVCDs, I set it to a PAL resolution, 352 X 288, but left it at 23.976 fps and 4:3, which still makes the film NTSC. Put it in my Apex, plays perfectly and not a single block. Also, the remote has a NTSC/PAL button which switches between regions. When I press it for NTSC, the movie plays as letterbox. When I set it to PAL, it plays as widescreen. Just thought you guys might like to know. This is the best way I've found to fix the jerky movement in Apex DVD players.

Thanks for the tip, definitely something I'll be trying out. Do you get the black and white look when playing your pal or modified pal (x)VCD's ?

Encoded the Rugrats.I.P. movie @704x480, 23.976 mpg2, and burned as SVCD. Played beautifully, although I can still see blocks. (on my 46in projection tv?)

interesting........
I tried the PAL trick with my apex 1500 and the screen is naturally all screwy, but the audio plays perfectly smooth. Well as smooth as i can tell, im goin to try the PAL KVCDX2 and see what happens
