So I went to Leon's furniture store to get a recliner and accidentally walked out with a new TV . It's a Toshiba 34HF81C 34" (16:9 HDTV, flat CRT). MRSP is US$2,999 and I got it for US$1,400 because it was a floor model.

I can't recommend it enough -- DVDs via component input are absolutely exceptional, though ironically I'm now spotting some mosquito noise and DCT blocks even on commercial discs . Yet to try any of my KVCDs on it, but I'll let you know.

One of the nice things about this model is the service manual is available online, so after I run my video calibration disc I'm gonna make sure my overscan is set up nicely (I'm thinking 16 pixels each side).

Problem is, my satellite receiver isn't HDTV-compatible, so I'm going to have to exercise extreme self-control to stop myself from getting a new model...

HDTV'S are fun. I have a Hitachi 43" projection. I am still using basic analog cable but DVD's thru component are awesome! SVCD's are pretty darn good too.

Analog cable looks surprisingly good with its built-in noise reduction. I also have digital satellite and now I can see why people complain about its quality -- I never noticed all those blocks on my old TV!

You can say that again. It's a huge step up from s-video, especially when you set the DVD player to output in 16:9 so you get the full vertical resolution.

I have similar issues with my 4DTV satellite receiver. Most digital channels look like crap, but the strong analog channels look very clean

@SansGrip,
I also see EVERY flaw on DVDs in my 32" Samsung HDTV.
But still, enjoy your new TV
