I did not find this player on the list of compatable KVCD player, It says that the SD1600 does NOT work and that the SD2800 does work for a couple of templates.

Anyone try the SD1800?

I may take Kwag's advice and take a test cd with me to see if it will pay.... anyway, this palyer is on sale for $125.00 and I think that Toshiba quality might be better than APEX and some of those other brands...

Thanks

The SD1800 is the SD2800. It will play all KVCDs but only at 352x240.

Personally, I would put out the extra cash at go for the SD3900. The 3900 plays all kvcds at all resolutions and is superior to the 2800. See my post later in this forum.

I guess the only real answer is to try before you buy.

When I went out shopping for a new DVD player I made a cd with all the samples I could find on this site. Armed with a KVCD with samples at 352x240, 352x480, 528x480 and 704x480 I went various video stores and had them play my VCD on every model I could afford. I also made sure that they plugged the DVD players into a TV that was simular to mine for the play tests.

Now everyone's eyes are different so your opinion may be different than mine but I bought the player that looked the best to me.

The site www.vcdhelp.com has a gread DVD Players database that may help you with your research.

BTW Kwag, the sales people were all amazed at the quality of KVCD!

The first time I went to a store to buy my Panasonic RP-56, I did the same thing. Guess what , that was over a year ago, and now that store has several demos running KVCDs The guys there loved it so much, that they got hooked

I live in Canada so I went to Futureshop, London Drugs, A&B Sound, Walmart and SuperStore. (That was about all I could find in my area.)

I realize that some of those are not great electronic stores but basicly I wanted to try as many DVD players as I could.

I tested Sony, Norcent, Magnavox, Electrohome, Toshiba, Panasonic, Sanyo, JVC, Mustek and a couple others that I can't remember right now.

In another year, I'll probaby do it all over again. (Hey, I got a years worth of entertainment - making KVCDs - for $200. Compare that to most other hobbies and I'm ahead of the game. Not to mention the 30+ movies I've recorded off of TV and VHS.)

If it wasn't for KVCD's I would never have continued since std VCD quality is just too bad.
