Anybody having any luck getting this DVD player to work with either KVCD template? The video jumps and audio momentarily loses synch on my RCA 5240P. I've tried the Demux/Remux to SVCD method, raising the minimum bit rate to 600, and lowering the resolution to 352*240. It did get better by upping the minimum bit rate and lowering the resolution, but I want better quality than that. The picture quality of the new Beta template is fantastic, but those video skips are driving me crazy. Maybe its time to quite and get the Sony NS315 or similar that will work.

I own this RCA model and yes, it does work well with the KVCD template. You just need to change the resolution to 352x240 instead of 352x480. This player doesn't like 352x480 res. Also, you'll have to change CQ value as well...

I tested the player in 352x240 CQ 78 and it played very well...
I'm now burning a VCD in 352x240 CQ 74 hopefully no biggie from CQ 78.

How long does it take to encode for you, on what kind of machine?

How much can you fit on a CD at CQ 78?

What are your high/low bitrates? How do you kill the jumpiness?

I've been experimenting for weeks and can't get quite what I want...

Thanks.

Same Here! My KVCDs skip on my DVD player too. I tried everything from changing the buffer and changing Min. Bitrate.

My Player appearently just works fine with a constant Bitrate.

Whenever I run IVTC on a movie, it tends to jump a lot, if that helps. I've just been encoding straight to 29.97 at 352x240 and it clears up a lot.

I don't find in my encodes that IVTC saves a lot of space, maybe 10 MB or so on a movie...

If the original movie is FILM, you encode at 23.976, and your file size will be about 20% smaller and better quality than if you encode at 29.97.
If it's a DVD your converting, and it is FILM, just set the "Force FILM" option in DVD2AVI when processing, and encode at 23.976 with TMPEG.

I also have an RCA 5240P and I'm also having video leading audio problems. I didn't try KVCD yes (just compiled the mpeg), but I've been using VCDFilm template (352x240 CQ 50 ...). I have some VCDs that work fine just not sure their specs. I'll try tonite using VCD NTSC ( I noticed the only difference is the Frame Rate - 1 on NTSCFilm and 4 on NTSC). Does that ring any bell to anyone?
Help is appreciated
Thanks,

I'm going to try a PAL KVCD template on this player. I know this player runs PAL VCDs because I just played one.

Going to give it a shot...

OMG!!
IT LOOKS GREAT!

Use the PAL KVCD template with this player!!
I just made my own sample of Alien Resurrection with that template and it looks wonderful! This player seems to really like 352x288.

One question, Kwag.
Will 104 minutes of video fit on one CD with this template??

Use the 352x240(28 LBR template and change the encoding mode to CQ.
With the new GOP, CQ mode, and file prediction method, you'll get way over 120 minutes with quality equal to a VCD if your source is 16:9 wide screen format . You can actually get around ~180 minutes at reduced quality. Try it

Why LBR? It says it's for small/portable DVD/TVs. I'm using a 53" Hitachi TV. I doubt the quality will be the same if I do this... And I can't get the file predictor to work right on my computer.

And, my original question is if what I was using would fit it all. Would that PAL template fit 104 min. on one CD? I don't want to try something else...again.

Hi -=Neo=-,

I assumed you were using the 352x288 PLUS template. The only difference from the LBR and the 352x240(28 PLUS is that the LBR MAX bit rate is 1,150Kbps and on the 352x240(28 PLUS is 1,800Kbps. That's it!. Other than that, they are the same. But the new GOP and CQ combination makes a hell of a difference .

OK, thanks.
I'm going to go with the LBR afterall! Heh...

I just encoded the same clip with both templates and the quality looks identical. But...The file size was about 1MB larger with the PLUS template (Not LBR)!

So...overall I think the LBR template will give me better results.

I have a question...
Does changing the aspect ratio have any change in file size??

You bet it will!. Basic rule: The more bits you encode, the larger the mpeg.

Hi kwag,

Thank you so much! I have finally found a working KVCD template for this player! You can add this informating to your player compatibility page.

I just encoded the full movie of Alien Resurrection, which is 104min. long, into a single 650MB KVCD LBR PLUS. The encoding specs. were:

PAL KVCD LBR PLUS (352x28
22 CQ_VBR
112kbit Audio

This might work the same using the NTSC template (352x240). I might test it using a CD-RW. (Got to go back to Office Depot).

Thank you so much kwag!
This really is great! Saves me tons of CDs for other movies and still gives me sweet quality! Everyone that is using this player should try this method out, and tell me what you think. Or, you can go and test the NTSC template for me.

Actually, I just watched the entire movie and noticed some scenes that sped up. I don't know what would cause that. Suddenly the frame rate speeds up. But it only happens a little. It's not that noticible.

But, I'd say that this is the best KVCD template for this player.
And, I'm so happy with the results I'm going to keep encoding with this template dispite that little problem, it's not that bad. :P

Hi -=Neo=-,

Maybe a small VBV buffer adjustment fixes that. You have a value of "40" set in TMPEG. You might want to try "48" which increases the value to 24KB instead of 20KB(default). See if that helps.

Thanks, I'll try it soon.
Will file size change at all?

I think it fixed it!
Thanks a lot, kwag!

I burned it to a CD-RW to test it and it works great!
The VBV buffer adjustment to 48 worked!

Now it's perfect!
I'm going to use this template more often.
