Hello everybody,
Anybody have success in playing KVCD (352x480) and KVCD+ (704x480) templates on Apex 1200? I tried everything (demux & remux, mvbr, min br to 600, etc) with no luck. The only thing that works is if I change the templates to 352x240 which is ok but I would like to be able to have higher quality movies. Any help is greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
-MX

I tried changing the fps to 29.97 in the KVCD+ template and didn't solve the problem. By the way, I use the following:
SmartRipper - to grab dvd vob files
DVD2AVI - to extract audio
FitCD - (I'm still confused with this one, but I think I'm doing fine)
TmpgEnc - encode mpeg
Nero - for burning
I think I did a force film in DVD2AVI. I'm gonna try DVD2AVI again tonight without the force film and see what happens.
The dvd movie that I'm working on:
Top Gun - 109 min.
I appreciate all the help!
Thanks,
-MX

Hi midiaxe:
That movie needs "Force FILM" checked. I backed up my DVD that way about six months ago.

Stay away from the 1200. It is a complete piece of crap. The door fell off mine when I pressed the eject button My wife saw it and said "What a quality unit you bought!". Anyway, its going back, and for your info., I was not able to get Kwag's templates to play no matter what I did. The only template that would play was the VCD res. which I don't like. Standard SVCD's also play, but that's not good enough.

I'm not to sure exactly what kind of problems you had but it does sound familiar with your statement about how if you change your resolution to 352x240. Theres good news and bad news I guess. In my experiences I dont think your gonna get anything higher than 480x480 to work.
I did a lot of trail and error with fps, matrix, gop and nothing came out of it, all it did was make me erase my cd-rw, encode, burn and watch another screen full of colored blocks and garbage (the audio was fine no problems). I'm not to sure exactly if thats your problem or not but it seemed to be the obvious hurdle to jump before I could do anything else. I heard about changing the resolution to 352x240 so i tried it and it worked like a charm. I thought exactly how you did, 352x240 is nice but I want something higher. I had heard about the Demux and Remux technique on how to fool the Apex that the VCD was really a SVCD that didnt work until I changed the resolution to that of a standard SVCD which is 480x480.
I would very much love for you or anyone else to prove me wrong about the resolutions but unfortunately I think you either have to settle for a 352x240 VCD or demuxing and remuxing the mpeg file as a SVCD VBR at 480x480. Its worked great so far for me using either those resolutions, although it is disappointing but Im just happy i can use the template at all.

I'm guessing your using the KWAG(NTSC) templates...Use these templates but try PAL resolutions..(ie..352x288, 352x576, 704x576)
There seems to be some luck with these resolutions by other APEX/Daewoo owners....Like me!

My Apex AD-2100 plays 480x480, and Kwag's x2 templates no problem. I have not tried anything else so far.

TomG,
Could you please check your ad1200 firmware version (open the tray and press display)? I believe there are at least 3 firmware versions of ad1200, 2.10, 2.12 and 2.13. I have 2.12 and I problems playing 480x480 (remux/demux) and Kwag's x2 templates. The only thing that works is 352x240. Appreciate the help...
Thanks,
-MX

midiaxe,
I don't have the ad1200, I have the ad2100! If they share the same firmware, I will let you know the version if you still want it. Just let me know.
