KVCD: KVCDx2 704x480plus and Apex Ad600a

I am having problems getting a movie encoded with the kvcdx2plus template to play correctly in my dvd player, an apex ad600a with an early firmware. The picture skips every 10 seconds or so and the sound plays fine, but the video plays fine if the vcd does not have sound. Here is what I have done so far.

ripped vobs to disk with smartripper
frameserved with dvd2avi
encoded ac3 to mp2 with headac3he (44.1khz at 224Kbps)
encoded video with tmpgenc kvcdx2plus template (only change min bit rate to 700)
muxed mp2 with m1v
create image with vcdimager
burned with nero

following these steps, the video skips.
I also tried encoding the video and audio at the same time in tmpgenc and had the same skipping during playback.
i then tried a sample video taken from the m1v with no sound and that played perfectly in my player.
My player has skipped like this in the past playing svcds with bitrates over 3000. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or success stories with the ad600a, I would appreciate them.

I am reencoding the audio to 160kbps right now and going to try that.

i just tried a sample with the audio at 160kbps and the same thing is happening. I am going to try 128 and also surround 1 instead of surround2 in headac3he.

It should play at 352x480. At least, that's the reports we got, and it's posted on the compatibility page. Have you tried the KVCD 704x480 PLUS template?
