DVD Rebuilder is free, unless you make a donation. I did, because I know how much work must've been involved in the remux code alone. But you don't have to donate to use it.

At higher bitrates I prefer the look of the CCE standard matrix over the Notch. At very high bitrates I think the MPEG standard matrix is probably the best. But the Notch is definitely the champion...

Actually, almost all AVIs are 1:1, i.e. square pixels, since they're designed for viewing on a PC monitor. I don't recall ever seeing an AVI with any other pixel aspect ratio.

Hmmm. Strange. Are you sure you selected the correct version of CCE in Options -> CCE Options? Make sure you choose CCE SP (v2.66+) and not CCE Basic (v2.67+).
