or

and you can do

You shouldn't normalize when creating lossless copies. If you want to have something like that, use replaygain on playback (requires foobar2000).

If you only distribute sources, you don't need to worry about licensing because you aren't distributing an encoder or decoder. Xvid and libavcodec use that trick all the time to get around license...

But I agree, that with that card (or a similar DVB card) you get the native MPEG-2 stream just as it was...

The way I see it 352x288 MPEG-2 muxed as SVCD is also not within standards, and can therefor cause compatibility problems too...
