I just captured "Wrongfully accused" at 528x480 from vhs with wintv go. I didn't drop any more frames than I would have with 352x480 too. Also I'm using smart smoother instead of flaxen vhs because it seems a lot faster and just as good results.

Is it worthwhile to cap at this resolution instead of a lower res and then resizing for kvcdx3?

thanks

Hi ren,
If your capture was succesful, you should be able to encode at exactly that resolution, which fits exactly the KVCDx3 size
I believe you're going to get sharper picture than if you had captured at 352x480.
Let me know how your encode looks!

R,
ideally you'd want to always capp at the res you'd want to encode (provided you're getting both fields) and then resize down or stay at that rez. I wouldnt Upsize as you'd lose quality. I'd say try it at XXXTreme resolution (x3) and as long as your frame droppage isnt too bad, then go for it.

thanx kwag & ztr,

I dropped about 50 frames out of the whole thing ( which to me doesn't seem too bad ) . So far it's looking pretty good in the tmpg preview window

Something strange happened though. I tried to frameserve my capture through avisynth with VDub and in tmpg the picture was black and white and also scrambled So now I'm not using and avs with vdub. Have any idea what this is about?

Were you able to read the .avs directly with TMPEG without Vdub? I mean, did it look correct on TMPEG while encoding?
Also, are you using the btwincap drivers with your capture card?

hey kwag,

I didn't try loading the .avs directly into tmpgenc I loaded CAPTURE.AVI into FitCD made the avs- loaded the avs into VDub then frameserved to tmpg. It was all screwed up.

I'll try to duplicate the problem after the encodings finished.

thx,
ren
