I have a problem which just suddenly appeared, nothing has been installed or uninstalled but can`t figure out a cause.

I can encode mpeg1 fine and play it back using media player no problem, but mpeg 2 no longer plays properly.

Instead it shows the screen split into three. The top half of the picture is purple in colour and contains the film twice, side by side. The bottom half is hard to describe, it looks like a skewed warped screenshot of a windows desktop with what appears to be icons but nothing like my desktop.

I`ve tried uninstalling all video codecs, etcetera, no luck. Has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Seems you're missing an MPEG-2 decoder.
If you don't have WinDVD or PowerDVD, you can download Video Lan Client here: www.videolan.org and download the VLC player.
That will let you play just about everything

Downloaded VLC, works great. Thanks

Odd thing is that before today Windows played mpeg2 files fine, even though I think its not supposed to? The first time I used it to play mpeg2 it said it couldn`t play and asked to access the net but when I said no it played anyway.

Your explanation makes sense, and your solution works so I`m happy.

Thanks again
