hi Everyone im new to kvcd.net and i have succesfuly made my first kvcd, using the CQ 352x240-ntsc-film-plus.mcf
i was happy i was able to fit a 1 hour 19 minute movie on a kvcd
Overall the movie was viewable but i wanna get better quality and compression from reading other threads it mentioned, kvcd optimal script+tmpgenc=quality, or something around those lines. But i need help on using the kvcd optimal script, first i copy paste to the notepad then replace the source, after that i try opening with ACP or TOK, even windows media player and still get some red letters telling me it cant play so how would i go about getting it to work i kinda understand how avisynth and the filters work from reading at avisynth.org but i cannot figure out how to use each filter and every of there uses so i can create a movie with better quality and removing those DTCblocks.

someone please help
thanks in advance,
-philly

You came to the correct place to enhance your encoding then. Because for such resolution and such time... VCD would have been enought .
If you take time to learn, you will put the same movie in 544*480 (or why not, two 1h19 long movies in 352*240 on a single disc )

Nope... you should not use them. Dead applications.
(eventually ACP that is still used by some people and should work correctly. but you won't have much support in case of problem).

The red letters should tell you something more precise than this. What is the exact error message please ?

Note: thread moved to a correct place.

wow the same movie on a 544x480 thats sounds good , but ive tried testing out such template and my standalone player will not play
what do you recommend in such case??

And for the ACP and TOK ive been trying to use because everyguide i have found so far tells me to use these and avisynth 2.5, but i think its cause there too old. because i am now using the avisynth 2.8. and i am now sure that moviestacker is no longer available. but is it possible to still make a decent looking kvcd without using all those unavailable programs help??

As for the windows media player it says unable to load gripfit_yv12.dll,
ive looked everywhere and i cant find this filter i only found the grip.dll
and the gripfit_preview.dll, is it possible to still use these types of filters?
as for the script i dont know what to type under (Your grip_crop_parameters_here) or where it says (linear motion adaptive filtering) or (letterbox values here but this one says depends on situation use moviestacker , wich is no longer available
thanks alot for your help in advance cheers!

You have several solution that you can try :
- use 528x480 insteed of 544x480
- encode in MPEG2 insteed of MPEG1 and doing a SVCD insteed of a VCD
- try to do a SVCD even if your video is MPEG1 (this is known as header trick)
And you can eventually give us the standalone model. Perhaps someone knows it.

Of course it is. But forget avs2.08 it is reallt too old and if you have a problem, the only means to help you will be to... tell you to change to avs2.5.5.

Someone renamed the file grip.dll with no real reason. But this is the same as "old" gripfit_YV12.dll.

This line will perhaps be a better help :
Code:
GripCrop(WIDTH, HEIGHT, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)
(just be carefull taht with a DVD the source is often anamorphic, so put true insteed of false)

Moviestacker can be replaced by FitCD that will give you the same values.

Hi, and thanks for replying so fast ,ok i gave it a try using the 528x480 using both mpeg-1 and mpeg-2
and still not showing, i have a phillips FW-D5 Mini Hi-Fi System with dvd and 3 cd changer. but now i wanna work on a longer movie it is 1hour 50 minutes long so wich template should i use if the source is 576x240

And for the avisynth i did switch to the 2.5.5 and worked like a charm
I can see the video now but i still get lots of those little blocks when viewing it what should i add to my script for this type of situation?
now im glad im finally making a script thats gonna work thanks alot

Cheers!

What kind of blocks
Are they kind of green big blocks, are they "macro" blocks, the ones you see on high motion, or are they DCT blocks, the ones seen on dark areas

I'm not sure what your source is, but it seems to be "not so good" quality
Hope it's not a DivX, because we don't talk about that here
For a clean 80 minute wide screen DVD source, the resulting KVCD at 352x240 should better than a VCD. If that's a picture of your encoded file, I'm almost sure the problem is with your source.
Could you post two screenshots (same frame) of the source and the same encoded frame, and a little larger please

are you saying just encoded normally with the ntsc 352x240 template using tmpgenc?? without a script?
well here is the original source

Well, there's your answer
Look at all the macroblocks on that source
First rule: Your encode will only be (almost) as good as the source, with proper filtering and techniques.
But when the source is bad, we call that "trash in, trash out"
That source is pretty bad, so that's why the encode came out so bad

oh i see i thought with proper filtering i could make the encode from the source even better, guess i was wrong
so anyway what should i use on a script for those
macroblocks in the future??

You can try the motion adaptive script, and increase blurring, but you will loose many small details.
In reality, with that specific source, it's not worth the effort, because the resolution is already very low.
If your source was "not so good" quality, but was a much higher resolution, then you could do some heavy filtering and then resize to a lower target.
My recommendation: Get a good DVD source
