The first picture from the New Orleans disaster is available for Google Earth.
It's impressive.

Don't take that rude Karl but they built a complete city two meters BELOW the sea level and now they are surprised ? How was it supposed to last forever ?

You're right Phil
There are some places in the world I would never live. New Orleans is one, for exactly what you mentioned, and California, for all the quakes they have there
I'll stay here, where we're above sea level, and most houses are built with cement, and not wood as most houses in the states are built.
That's why when we get a hurricane here, sure we do get some floods, but houses or buildings are not torn down from the wind like what we just saw in AL.

From where I stand, it doesn't matter if the city was built 2 meters below sea level.
Of course they should have thought about that in the 1st place.
But what really matters is that latest news do point so something like 2.000 lives lost with that big mother f*****.
I'm pretty sad that these things happen and that we can't do a damn thing to prevent it.
Many stayed because they didn't have the means to evacuate.
Other stayed because all roads were piled up with cars trying to leave the city premisses.
I can't stop imagining something similar happening here in Lisbon.
I'm affraid we would have beaten the above figures by x2 or x3 ...
My prayers are with those that are still alive but that are desperately needing help.
Cheers

Don't worry Rui, I was not talking about the casualties, but about the delay before they can return to their home.
When the water enters in a city above the sea, you just have to wait a couple of days and it will go by itself. Here they will have to pump all the water out like a swimming pool ! That's why I tell they should not be surprised.

Yes, now I can understand more clearly what you meant.
But don't worry because I was not annoyed with your remarks or anything like that .
I am simply very sad, very very sad.
Just thinking that those people were all alive and that in a matter of hours they were all gone just like with the Tsunami or the Twin Towers, etc...
I am just very angry that these things have to happen .
Apparently you just cought me in a very bad mood and I didn't explain myself as I should .
Cheers

I also saw the devastation on the news and it was really aweful to see all these people who have suffered and for those who have lost their lives.

The scale of this disaster is huge and will take many many years to rebuild. I hope we don't see another disaster like this for a long long long time.
