Then go read it again

Now please understand that it is a NO DISCUSSIONS ABOUT DOWNLOADED DIVX/XVID MOVIES. POSTS WILL BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY.

And if you're still thinking why we don't talk about Divx to KVCD I'll let you in on a little secret: encoding and reencoding the same video clip will only produce garbage.
And the above sentense is true no matter which codec you use .

Cheers

PS: unless if you first encode with a lossless encoder like HuffYUV

Nevertheless, if you want to encode DVD to KVCD under linux, you can ask to "le_barbu". He is one of the only one I know that try to use mencoder to achieve this task. Send him a PM.

No problem, it's just that we get that question a lot and it's mostly the 1st question that a rookie asks here .
But like Phil said, le barbu is one of the few people we know that are currently using mencoder under Linux.
Why don't you guys talk about it and since the mencoder forum is closed maybe write it down at the ffmpeg/ffvfw/ff(d)show forum?
That would be cool, huh?
Cheers

@deadexposure

Tovid seems the way to go. I know that a brazilian guy submitted a patch to provide kvcd support onto this tool and the one was approved. AFAIK it uses mpe2enc from MJPEGTOOLS to do encodings to MPEG2 (it doesn't use mencoder!). I didn't test it (but I will, since that I'm migrating from Windows to Linux).

Regards,
