@Hi Karl, I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Years 2008. I tried to save this in PM, but kept getting a
DEBUG error. Also, want to wish all members of KVCD the same.

I have a old laptop laying around and want to turn it into a mobil GPS
unit using a usb GPS. If you or any members have any suggestions
please post. Thanks

BP

Hi BP!

Yes, I got several repeated PM's from you, so I guess there were some temporary problems with the forum.
Same to you and all members of KVCD.Net

About your notebook, give GOS ( http://www.thinkgos.com/ ) a shot
As far as resources, I guess GOS will be better for an older PC/Notebook, because it doesn't use KDE or GNOME. It's based on E17 (Enlightenment), which is lower on system resources and is very fast.
Give it a shot!

EDIT: There's also Gebuntu http://geubuntu.intilinux.com/Home.html which looks VERY promising
I tried the live CD ant it looks VERY good.
Try that first

@Hi Karl and everyone,

GPSDrive (linux GPS Navigation Software) seems to be a favorite with
most GPS laptop / Pocket PC / PDA linux solutions:
GPSDrive: http://www.gpsdrive.de/screenshots/index.shtml (free)
Also, for a windows sloution: iGuidance version 4, got great reviews, but cost $109
For the GPS device, I chose Globalsat BU-353:
http://www.epinions.com/GLOBALSAT_BU...splay_~reviews ($47+shipping)

And for the laptop: It's a Compaq Armada M300.($135 - $199).
I would like a PocketPC using WinCE

So far, I'm still reviewing more posts and GPS forums. The trade-off of
quick GPS aquire, accurate directions with street announcements and
a customizeable voice announcement, 3-D moving maps with correct
turn chimes is hard to find on the cheap. But i'm getting closer
