"...DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD disks. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disk..."

It"s like DVD2one but it"s free!

After running this program, all I have to say is: WWWWWOOOOOOOWWWWW
I'm encoding something now. We'll see what kind of quality it spits

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work. I am only able to get it to work from the DVD. I am unable get it to do anything from files on the hard drive.

If I choose Re-encode, I get "File Doesn't Exist" when I open the .ifo file.

If I choose Re-author, and click Add I get a DVDShrink has had a Fatal Error.

Any suggestions.

You probably had those files ripped in "IFO" mode instead of "File" mode.
I'm currently processing a movie from the DVD drive. The speed is excelent Doing "The Green Mile", a 3 hour movie, and recompressing time is ~1 hour 10 minutes.

Last night I did "The Bourne Identity". To me, it looks as good as DVD2ONE, but it's much faster in transcoding. I'll probably do the same movie today with DVD2ONE, and then compare some scenes

DVD2ONE Screenshot:

DVD Shrink Screenshot:

I can see who the clear winner is
If you can't, use vhelp's "PicSwitch", and you will see the obvious

Both screenshots were taken from the same frame of the movie "The Bourne Identity". Right at the beginning of the movie, on the first lightning flash. This scene can't be more complex Water, small particles (rain), etc. It was encoded with DVD2ONE as "Movie only", and also with DVD Shrink, also in movie only (Encode Level 3) .

@Kwag,

I tried DVDShrink and ditto to WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!
CCE is the real picture quality test against DVDShrink. If it equals or
comes close, with that speed and is free, then what a wounderful life
this is The Author even wants suggestions for upgrades, like
refinement of encoding compression, etc. I still use KVCD with Tok
and woundered when the audio (.ac3 file) will be automated from Tok.
For my laptop which only has a CD rom to play movies, KVCD is
great

Kwag,

Bloody Hell! This looks great! Does anyone know, could these transcoding programs benefit from the KVCD matrix to provide even better compression? Or are they limited to the matrix that was used when the movie was encoded? Could they take out the overscan etc? Oh - sooo many questions and no one to ask?!?!?!?!

I guess telling him to shrink a DVD to 800 MBwon't work (or maybe 1600MB?), or???

Of course, me too
And there's just no way (yet) to put ~6 hours full D-1 on a DVD with great quality, except with KDVD

You can see the winner just by looking at it, but PicSwitch highlights it even more

Yes, you can
But make sure you rip in "File" mode. Not in "IFO" mode.
Use DVD Decrypter if possible
