here are my specs:
Windows XP
p3 667
190MB RAM
ATI TV Wonder VE

i can capture beautifully at 352x480 but there is a blurriness to the video cuz of the resolution. so i tried capturing at 720x480. its beautiful but it starts to drop frames so i get jerky playback. if i get a video card, can this help? or is it that i just need a faster computer?

Hi conquest10,

For capturing at that resolution (720x480), you need a fast computer, and primarily a very fast hard disk. Prefereably a SCSI drive, like a cheetah 10,000 RPM drive. I assume you're capturing using Huffy CODEC?, because if you're trying to capture RAW AVI, forget it! Unless you have a hardware RAID hard drive set specially designed for video editing, which costs $$$$$$$

thanks. i knew it. i was trying to see if i could get away with it without having to buy a new computer. actually, i'm using windvr to capture to mpeg2. i'm using a 5400 hard drive and the caps at half d1 look great. i would have loved it if i could have done 720x480, though.

If you're encoding directly to MPEG-2 with WinDVR, then you just need a fast computer, and your hard drive should be fine
But download the BTWinCap drivers http://btwincap.sf.net

oh ok. thanks. i was thinking of getting a new hard drive anyway cuz i've had this one for 3-4 years. i use the ati drivers cuz at first i had tried the btwincap drivers and it messed up the channels. it only let me select the source as PAL and the channels were off by three channels. and there was even more wierdness. so i just installed the ati drivers and i haven't had a problem.
