Hi all.

I thought I'd start this off w/ a new Analog Capture card discussion. Being
that I'm currently waiting for an order to arrive Monday or Tuesday.

The card:
* Osprey-210 - - (Brooktree BT878, A/D: 8 bit)

just realized that it may have ben modified, being that there's TWO pics.
FROM: RealNetworks - read the specs there too.
.
or
.

This card seems to be fairly scares among Google searches etc. even on
vcdhelp, there is limited discussion on this particular card.

There is rumor that this card is based on the Brooktree BT878 chipset
tipicle of most cards out their, though this is a newer card.

I also noticed that there seems to be TWO picturials versions being displayed
thus far. The only conclusion I have is that probably one of them have a
design revision, OR one card probably offers a hardware feature - streamcast or
something like that (will check spelling later)

and some specs from www.ht.com

Quote:
The Osprey-210 ships with a breakout cable for video and audio inputs.
Features:
- Multiple Osprey-210's per chassis (Windows NT, 2000 and XP)
- Advanced DMA for ultra-high performance (full 30fps)
- BNC composite video input
- Audio Loop-back
- Hardware audio gain control
- Closed Caption
- Compatible with SimulStream
Benefits:
- Increased integration flexibility by allowing multiple cards to operate within a single PC
- Captures full frame video at 30 frames per second for maximum quality
- Supports most popular video and audio APIs
- Professional video connector enhances reliability
- Monitoring of audio capture without impacting rich media delivery
- Enhanced sound capture at lower bit rates
- Windows 95/98, NT, 2000 and XP support
- Linux support
As for sound, I'll be routing it through my soundcard as usual, and only
for straight .AVI capturing.

Another side to this cards' research is the theory I have, that becuase
this card is w/out a TV tuner, it will not exitbit any noise in my current
MotherBoard setup, in my captures. I will find/prove this out sometime this week.
The noise may well indeed be due to MotherBoard related issues.

FWIW, by now, I guess you could call me a capture card junky/collector - as I
have so many in my tool chest now:

* DB100, ATIW, DVC I, DVC II, AIW, ATIRFP, WTVGO, ADVC-100, PCPVR, DC10+ and ..OSPREY-210

I'm also researching another card in addition, but I'll leave that one for
another discussion. So, yes.. I've tried them all.

Samples here:
-------------------------------
04.23.03 - - - SAMPLE Encodes.. KDVD; KVCD; CVD; SVCD; VCD and "x"

Stay tuned for further details and my experiences.

hi Kway..

he he.. you are just too quick for me.

You should've seen how messy my juggling 4 window and notpads just
to split these topics up, re-reasch some of the data, so's to get better
accurate info, and links then through all everything together. Pfew !!
And, to top it all off, my fingers are so numb, from Guitar practice !!

I'm only glad that the two posts made it w/ out issues.

Yes, Thanks. I guess I'll know for sure which one it is when I get it though.
I can't wait.

Thanks for looking out for me.

Both pictures may be capture cards - the second one (that looks like a PCI video card) could have an external cable with the SVideo connectors located at the end of the cable (breakout box?), like the Dazzle DVCII card (so one doesn't have to crawl behind the computer to hook up the video cables) - might be the difference in the two versions vhelp noted. But then again, I'm not familiar with this brand of video card.

Evening peoples

Well.. it's afficial.. My Osprey-210 card arrived safely in the mail today !!

Just some quickies for those interested in a NEW capture card and review,
case anyone is interested in my experience
Add this to your capture card shopping list decision making.

Quote:
* A/D Bit: 8
* Chip: Conexant Fusion 878A
.
* Driver: VFW v1.37 - - (I hose this for my w98 OS)
* Max Capture Resolution: 720x480 - - (nothing but the best hehe)
.
* Quality: (tested: BTYUV) quality was excellent !!
* Line Noise level : "0" - - that's "ZERO"
.. but these are short tests, and much more testing has to be done. Also,
.. the REAL test will be w/ VHS and VCR sources.. as this is where the Noise
.. show up mostly.

* Frame Drops: (tested short caps) "0" frames drops so far.
* Source: Satellite w/ S-Video conneciton
* VHS: un-tested so far.. but next on the list
* Sound: used my soundcard's (though Osprey-210 has built-in audio)

Some minor notes:
* So far, I REALLY like the final capture quality. The colors are fantastic
.. and the Nose level, as I said above, is ZERO so far. Also, I've done some
.. quick YV12 captures, they are just as stunning, or better, but I have some
.. issues with the BUFFERS, because it shuts down the capture when limit is
.. reached (even though my other capture cards don't suffer "these same
.. capture card setup ie, YV12 and YUV9" issues)
* There are other BUFFERS issues, when I choose 24bit RGB or 32bit RGBA
.. modes, but the quality is fantasic when I am viewing it on my monitor.
My next testing will include VHS source. If this test proves successful, w/out
showing any Line Noise, then I may have NEW analog capture for my VHS
sources (in addition to my already successful ADVC-100) I still feel that an
analog capture card yields the best capture output quality over DV.. after
all, DV is compressed (lossy) So far, I'm liking my new Osprey-210 card.

Note also.. turns out that the card is the 2nd picture at top of this page

EDIT: pictures coming..

Stay tuned for more "honest" testing and evaluation.

Hi everyone.

This is truely an amazing analog capture card. It really is

To get an idea of this card's potential, I've U/L'ed a sample clip.
Another clip will follow, but it's really getting kind of late, as it's going
on 2:00am here in NY.
(see LINK on first page on this thread, at the bottom)

Bring whatever comments you may have here, if you like

Enjoy, and more to come..

Basically, this is an update of my progress w/ my new Osprey-210 capture card.

So far, my Satellite captures have proven worthy of quality. I have no serious
complaints that are worth mentioning here. Even noise is minute (next to
ZERO)

However, VHS projects are proving wip-lash on me from my past capture
card experiences. Unfortunately, even though this card hase no TV-Tuner
chip inside (was my assumpe thereitically) that it might be one possible
cause of Noise, but turns out that my hunch was wrong. There STILL is Noise
in my captured .AVI file. RATS !!

Here is a recap of my experience thus far**:

* No wiggles in video
* No dropouts
* No distortion in the video of any sort
* and No dropped frames.

A perfect score, and I can not think of any reason why I can't replace my
ATI-TV Wonder and even DC10+ cards. However, I will continue to keep
my DC10+ for now, but definately replace my WinTV-GO (RCA only) card w/
the new Osprey-210 in it's happy place in my 2nd pc.

** the above is based on some VHS tapes I used, that cause me lots of
video issues (ie, all the above) These are tapes I used for the Osprey-210
testing, which, it passed w/ flying colors !! All except for the Noise.

Now, I could get rid of most of the Noise through the use of Filtering, but I
really don't want to have to resort to Filtering - though it looks like I'll have
no choice (if I'm going to be doing any Analog capturing) The ADVC-100
does not exhibit any Noise. So, if I really must, then the ADVC-100 will take
care of the rest for me. Mind you, I'm still testing the ADVC-100 w/ VHS
sources.

I am happy to say that the Osprey-210 does not drop any frames, even at
my 720x480 resolutions. This is important.

I don't think I'll get rid (return) this card, because it's the first Analog w/out
any issues (xcept the Noise) So, I'll be keeping it.

I have another idea to try. One of my other theories for Line-Noise was
the fact that the MotherBoard could also be the problem (at least for Analog
capture cards)
I want to test this theory out on a MotherBoard I have, which I have YET, to
setup STILL. It's suppose to be my 3rd PC (for internet only) but I've ben
way too busy to set it up, though I have pretty much everything i need to
get it up and running. It's just a matter of time, and pure Un-adaulterated
Procastination and Lazyness on my part.

The above board I'm talking about is:
* Biostar M7VKQ, w/ VIA VT8361+ VT82C686B

Well, we'll see sooner or later. Time will tell.

That's all I have for now.
