I've tried both KVCD compatibility tests on a Pioneer DV-626D and here are the results:

compat.test#1
----------------

KVCD 352x240 = OK
KVCD 352x240 plus = OK
KVCD 352x240 LBR = OK

KVCD 352x480 = squashed screen
KVCD 352x480 plus = squashed screen

KVCDx2 1CD (704x480) = OK
KVCDx2 2CD (704x480) = OK
KVCDx2 plus (704x480) = OK

KVCDx3 (528x480) = squashed screen
KVCDx3 mod (544x480) = squashed screen

compat.test#2
----------------

KVCD ULBR = OK
KVCD LBR = OK
KVCD 352x240 plus = OK

KVCD 352x480 plus = squashed screen
KVCD 704x480 plus = OK
KVCDx3 528x480 = squashed screen

Hi easymenu,

When you mean "Squashed screen", you mean the left part of the screen
That's typical of Pioneer players. If you want that resolution, encode as MPEG-2, and it will display properly
Also try KVCDx3A (544x480)

Yes, the picture starts from the left and displays the picture squashed (stops about 1/2 or 2/3 or 3/4 screen, depending on the resolution ratio).

It's great that there's a trick around some of these "incompatibilities"! "KVCDx3A" wasn't on the compatibility test disks so I hadn't tried it. [EDIT: oops, my mistake -- KVCDx3A is the "mod" version, so it was tested] Any plans on making a new, comprehensive compatibility test disk?

Yes, but not for a while. Eventually, I'll do a high quality test image, with all resolutions
