Hi,

I play my movies on a 28' widescreen, which resolution would suit best and not give too much of a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen?

Hi santax,

Black bars are not resolution dependant
They depend on the movie.
If your TV is a "Wide Screen" TV, wide screen movies should display without any black borders on top, bottom or sides.
The same applies to your own, properly encoded mpeg files.
You have to make sure your aspect is correct. Take a look at the program "Moviestacker". With that program, you can create AviSynth scripts that will create correct aspect ratio in your encodes. Check the forum for related topics.
