Let me begin by inquiring if this is the correct forum for this question.

Here's the situation; I have an 1.7G ksvcd file i tried burning to dvd+rw in Nero6 Ultra as dvd-video format. It burnt successfully but would not playback on my standalone dvd player (philips 725); it played back fine on the computer. I then burnt the same file as a dvd+vr and it worked; although taking 5x longer to burn.

Can someone give me a pointer or 2 regarding the dvd-video vs dvd+vr formats for burning to dvd?

Also, would I be better off encoding as KDVD vs KSVCD as I plan to burn to DVDs. Thanks

Hmm,
Obviously there is some misunderstanding, radunn.
Standalone players are not obliged to play SKVCD encodes burnt on DVDs.
Maybe your player can but that won't work with all the others.
So for a matter of compliancy you'll be better off with the KDVD format burnt in any DVD+R or RW.
Now you said your player didn't play the encoded video on a DVD+RW but it did on a DVD+R.
Perhaps it's not in it's specifications.
Have you read it's manual for media compliancy?
Cheers

No, I said that it did not play when burnt as dvd-video format but played burnt as dvd+vr (the same file). Thanks for the reference regarding to burn as KDVD. KSVCDs burnt onto CDRs playback fine on my standalone player

Also, what is the ratio of KDVD compared to the standard DVD format? I'd like to know how many hours etc., can be utilized with KDVD.

3h30 without any problems. 4h is more difficult to obtain with a decent quality but you can reach it (I'm talking there about movies with 384 Kbps AC-3 audio).
