hello

my resultant files sizes after processing a WAV (created using dvd2avi) and using VBR with headac3he seem larger then they should be.

Using headac3he - upon loading a 963MB wav source file, headac3he's interface reports the destination file will be 92MB

however - all my resultant mp2 files end up double the amount predicted when using VBR (in this example 187MB) which seems unnecessarily large for only 87 minutes of audio.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

settings are

2 pass mode ticked (dumb)
nomalise 100%
resample to 44.1 khz
input = left & right
output = left & right
downmix = Surround 2
mode= VBR quality 3
bitrate = 128
channel mode = 2 channel

all other settings as default.
all dll's loaded correctly.

Any clues appreciated

No real clue to giev as :

- you must'nt do the ac3->wav downmix with dvd2avi. Just demux with d2v and let headac3che do the "surround2 downmix" as you asked it to do (this setting is irrelevent when the input is an already 2-channel wav !)

- you musn't use VBR for making VCD (even if some player read it, MP2 protocol carries VERY BADLY bitate allocation in variable mode).

And this second point explain why you have a such surprise in the file size.
