Hi guys,

What is better when doing kdvd, AC3 audio or MP2

I've read something about that you need AC3 to make a 100% compliant
dvd? What is the minimum bitrate you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Send a message via ICQ to incredible
BOTH AC3 and MP2 are 100% DVD compilant IF encoded in 48khz!

The advantage of AC3 is that you can encode 100% DVD compilant 5.1 Channel audio files. Mp2 also provides a 5.1 mode (as I know via Hypercube or something else) BUT mp2 multichannel is not 100% DVD Compilant.

that is weird. Well believe me, MP2 Stereo IS 100% DVD Compliant.
Either your player does not know the official specifications or you screwed something in the process...

It could be that the player requires that an AC3 track exists along with the MP2 one. Some players are known for that, I think that the DVD Demystified FAQ mentions this and it is mostly a problem with NTSC players.

if his standalone can play vcds/svcds thin it can play mp2!
(i don't know one simple model that can't read vcds)

big links to read:

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...y-10-2000.html

detail in the last link:
Friends" VCD

Video CD (White Book) was introduced by Philips and Sony in 1993, 10 years after CD-DA. The resolution of VCD is 352 x 240 for NTSC and 352 x 288 for PAL. VCDs are encoded using MPEG-1 compression and can hold approximately 70 minutes of a movie on a single VCD. Because of the time limitation, movies often require two VCDs. For the DVD benchmark, we were only concerned if a DVD player could play a VCD and not the quality of the presentation.

means that new standalones can play mp2 and they don't knew kvcds!

MP2 audio support is mandatory for R2 players, but not for R1 ones!

Some older R1 players may not be able to output the audio if it's in a DVD. I suppose that the fact that MP2 works in VCDs/SVCDs doesn't mean that it works in DVDs too.
