i'm encoding with mencodeME and tmpg saying that the combined bitrate exceeds the standard (vid- 9800 audio-150). When i take a look at it with bitrate viewer though it is not anywhere near that bitrate.

What's going on?

Hi Ren,

When you encoded, did you set the GOP to 18

Use "Restream" or "DVDpatcher" ...

... and patch the header so the decribed bitrate wont be over 9800kbit

But as I now, what will be written in the header is the SAME which is set in mencoder commandline by vrc_maxrate=XXXX.

But maybe you shout look into the m2v header using the apps. as qutoted above

ah thnx Inc. So this 9800kbps is just written in the header and is not the actual bitrate right? The video is showing 9800 but the audio bumps it up. Should I just ignore these error messages?

The Audio Bumbs it up???
Well in the header ... you just "tell" the player what he probably will get!
But you cant change the max rate after encoding (as you know) ... so do burn a sample DVD-RW and try exactly theese scenes where the peaks do appear.

And if your SAP wont play it well, then do set another vrc_maxrate like 8000 or so at your next encoding job as for mencoder its totally enough!
