Subs from .rawsub files...
 

Hi all!

I ripped the DVD "Big Fish", and I want my backup to have all the subtitles, the original DVD has. I stored the subtitles in extra files (SmartRipper), now I have .rawsub files... How can I mux these files with the encoded movie? (.m2v) the target is DVD of course.

Also one of the subtitle files has a "forced" option in the original DVD. Meaning that on certain parts of the movie (the scene where chinese is spoken) the subtitles would switch on automatically... How is that to be done? Anyone can supply me with a simple guide, I've never really cared for subtitles (only hardcoded ones using VobSub...) so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it a lot!

rawsub files? Do you mean files with .sub- extension(sub- pictures) ? If so you can mux them into the mpeg- file with WinSubMux (included with DVD2SVCD).

Or are you making a movie with switchable subs? If so (if your player supports switchable subs), WinSubMux can add 4 different subtitles into one movie...

PS. About the "forced" subtitles, I don't know if it can be done, maybe someone smarter then me knows...

J3lly is making a DVD and winsubmux is only SVCD compliant.
So he cannot use that.

I just don't know what a .rawsub sub file is so I'm affraid I can't help much.
With the original VOB/IFO files you can use VobEdit to extract all the subs and that way they come out in a .sup file that can be restored on your target with IfoEdit.

well about the .rawsub files, i got them, when I used Stream Processing in SmartRipper! I checked the subtitles, and also "Store In Extra File"... That's the way it was done... What I got was .rawsub files and .lst files for each subtitle stream!
The IfoEdit way is the complex one right? I don't care to give it a try, I just wonder for future encodings, what would be the RIGHT and EASIEST way to have all original switchable subtitle streams in my encode? including the forced one, and leave it forced...

Just download VobEdit and copy it to a folder on your PC.
Don't forget to put a shortcode on your desktop to be easier to reach it ;-)
Now run it and push the Open button.
Browse for your vobfile and open it.
Now you can see all the video+audio+subs tracks on the vobfiles of your movie on the left pane.
Don't worry you dont need to select any of those.
Just hit the Demux button and choose Demux all Subp and hit the OK button.
Wait while all is Demuxed to your HD.
Then you'll have a *.sup file that you will only be able to use with IfoEdit.
Now download IfoEdit and copy it to a folder on your PC.
Don't forget to put a shortcode on your desktop to be easier to reach it ;-)
Run it and you'll find a DVD Author menu.
Open it and push author new DVD.
See the buttons on the right of the window that just opened that just have a - sign inside?
Use them to load your video file, audio file and sup file.
In the end hit the name of the audio file when it is already in the list and change it's language on the combo box.
The rest is pretty straight forward I think.
Just one thing: download VMesquita's guide and you'll also learn how to make the subs white or yellow instead of outlined green which is the default *argh*.

ok, one more question... is IfoEdit the only way I can import the demuxed subs? because IfoEdit is in my eyes not very handy to author a menu and stuff like that... also this backup is to go on the dvd with a second movie...

There is no other way except to take agin the original source and use subrip to do a text based (srt) subtitle file than you will use into DVDLabPro.

Each authoring tool use it's own subtitle format :-(

Jelly can always use IfoEdit as a muxing engine only.
Afterwards he can load the resulting files into DVDLab (even standard) and do the menus inside it.
