Change subtitle without re-encoding??

I am wondering if I can edit the subtitle of an final KVCD Mpeg file without re-encoding the source VOB again? Let's say I have encoded a movie with English subtitle, how can I make another mpeg movie with another language subtitle without re-encoding??

if u still have the original mpg file, you could try a program like
subrip to ripp the subtitles you want from the vob's and an app like WinSubMux.exe to add the subs to the mpg file.

search in doom9.org for the software.
http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm#subs

if still not sure how to do it,,,download and install, again from doom9
dvd2svcd and load up your dvd movie or ripped vob's from the harddrive as if you are going to ripp the movie again,,and stop the process once the subtitles are ripped. this will put the subtitles as bmp's and give you the txt files needed to import them into winsubmux.

Will either way you suggested affect the picture quality of original mpeg file??

I don't think that is posibble because when you make a movie with subtitles they become part of the movie (the movie and the subtitle bmp become one), and can't be separated cause they are permanent, what you can do is to make a movie without any subtitles(like if it was a template) and then put the subtitles you want with the programs in doom9.

D,
yes and no.
On some of the divx- avi encodes you'd be employing permanent subs.
On svcd's you can have svcd subs, cvd subs, and permanent subs.
The permanent subs will obviously be permanent and hardcoded onto the video stream. Some divx players will show subs , if not permanent (which would show on wmp also). Dvd players will show either svcd and/or cvd subs. The crappy end apex's will show only cvd subs, my 1500 does anyway. I've added subs to a ripp afterwards, (pc crashed creating images), i just added them afterwards doing the dvd2svcd trick.
