BUYER GUIDES -> Where to buy good media

Be careful when buying media. It is best to use trusted media brands and media formulas, and to buy from trusted companies that both value customers and carry only quality products. The best "deals" are often the worst media available, especially from companies that use eBay.com and Yahoo.com Stores for their online storefronts. Many have been known to sell fake discs, rip off customers, and disappear after mere weeks. Be sure to see the Blank DVD Media FAQ for more info on DVD quality.

More? If you know of a good store to add to this list, let us know, we will consider it. Companies that wish to contact us should look at the site advertising options.

PLEASE NOTE! Unfortunately, we don't qualify for the affiliate programs of some of these stores. If you order from them because of this site, tell them digitalFAQ.com sent you in the comments section when placing your order. I may not get any money out of it, but at least they'll know where their customers came from!

Page is composed of several sections:
(1) Preferred stores, (2) Good USA stores, (3) Good European/UK stores, (4) Good Canadian stores, (5) Good Australian stores, and (6) Warning! Not suggested!

Preferred stores
- Rated #1 (USA): Supermediastore.com aka DVD-RWmedia.com: Excellent selection, excellent pricing, and fast shipping. Customer service, should they be needed, and quick and courteous, and real people answer the phone if you need to call for anything. Rarely are they out of stock on products.
- Rated #2 (USA): RIMA.com:
Decent selection and competitive pricing. They have some of the best deals for 100-, 200- and 500-disc spindles. Excellent return policy on defective media. Has been known to be both fast and slow, depending on your location and day you order.
- Rated #3 (USA): Meritline.com aka cdrdvdrmedia.com:
Decent selection, decent prices. If something is out of stock, they normally prevent their web site from allowing you to order it. Shipping can be slow at times, and they've sometimes been 2-3 times longer than SMS or Rima. Great deals on media-case combos.
-
Rated #1 (UK): Blankdiscshop.co.uk aka SVP.co.uk: Large selection of DVD media, excellent prices, and they provide media ID in the disc descriptions. Also has video hardware and other related supplies.
- Rated #1 (Canada): Blankmedia.ca:
Canadian online media seller (no import taxes!) and has a large selection of media at great prices.

Good USA stores
- AllMediaOutlet.com aka Blank-cd-cdr.com: This supplier has long had an excellent selection of media, with competitive prices.
- Iopshop.com:
Modest selection of high quality media with competitive prices.
- Amazon.com:
They often sell retail-packaged brand-name media like Maxell and Fuji. However, because the media is sold by brand and not maker/ID, you could end up with cheap media like CMC or LEADDATA.
- NewEgg.com:
Lots of blank DVD media, often at decent prices. Just be aware of what you are buying, as there have been reports of otherwise-good media being bad, for unknown reasons.
- Taperesources.com: Described as an excellent seller of bulk media and the quintessential place to buy DV accessories.
- J&R Music and Computers, JR.com: Many of the highest grade name-brand media for a decent price. Including Apple, Maxell, Panasonic, etc.
- Shopperwiz.com: Similar to Newegg, but with a much larger selection of some high grade media. Includes brands like Verbatim, Maxell
- TheTapeCompany.com: An excellent source for bulk analog and digital media and storage supplies. Very fast shipping, excellent customer service with knowledgeable employees.
- Fry's Electronics aka Outpost.com: Huge selection of media, and often the best prices you can find in stores. Excellent selection of DVD-RW and DVD+RW. Sells lots of video hardware too.
- Office Depot, officedepot.com: Often has good sales on Maxell branded media.
- Staples, staples.com: Carries most brand-name media using first/second-class media ID codes, typically at very good prices, especially when on sale.
- Best Buy, bestbuy.com: Carries several brand-name medias using first/second-class media ID codes. Often has good sales on Fuji and Verbatim (MCC) media.
- Circuit City, circuitcity.com: Is known to have good sales on TDK media.
- Walmart, walmart.comA store that is open 24 hours a day and carries first class blank DVD media at reasonable prices, usually Sony and Maxell. Available both online and in the traditional brick-n-mortar stores.
- CDW.com:

Good European/UK stores
- CD-rmedia.co.uk: Respectable selection of media with excellent prices.
- Dvd-and-Media.com:

- BB-Discs.com: Carries TDK, Verbatim, Traxdata, Taiyo Yuden and Ritek from authorized suppliers. Prices reasonable.
- Nierle.de: Large selection of DVD media, excellent prices, and they provide media ID in the disc descriptions. They are also careful to label the fake media IDs found on their budget media as fake.
- Xgates Computers: Offline store in Crossgates, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Reported as having many media, and at decent prices.
- Burn-media.co.uk:
Decent selection of DVD media, decent prices, and they provide media ID in the disc descriptions.
- cdrwinkel.com: Decent selection, decent prices.
- Norwaydisc.no: Verbatim/MCC media sales at reasonable prices.

Good Canadian stores
- Futureshop, futureshop.ca: The Canadian relative of Best Buy.
- Effectuality.ca:
Excellent selection of media and DVD case supplies. Very competitive pricing, also ships to the USA.
- CDW.ca:
Sells first-class retail-packaged media like Verbatim and Apple for decent prices. Excellent to work with as a business-to-business operation.
- ncix.com:

Good Australian stores
- Selectmedia.com.au:
Decent selection of media. However, you have to call them for pricing.
- PCX.com.au: Not the best prices, but still reasonable, with a nice selection of excellent quality media. If you want them to check a media ID first, ask, they may do it for you.
- JPLDisplays.com.au
: Nice selection of high quality media with very reasonable prices.

Warning! Not suggested!
- Shop4tech.com: Their in-house discs may be cheap (Matrix, Sonic, etc), but the quality has historically been some of the worst media around. You have to dig through the site to find mainstream media, and it often has high pricing. Individuals claiming to be shop4tech employees have been banned from online video sites more than once for immature behavior.
- Americal.com: Expensive and not always honest about their products. They are known to exaggerate about the quality of their discs, cases and other supplies. Also known to pull a bait-n-switch and send you products different than what was ordered.
- Yesbuy.net: Terrible customer service, not great prices, and in the past, they have sold fake media as legit. Typically stocks lots of low grade media under various made-up brand names.
- Esbuy.com: The products pictured are not what they have available, and the discs may be completely different from what is ordered. Prices are extremely high. Almost all of their media is low-grade garbage sold under their name brand. Customer service reps were quite clueless. Refunds/RMA is a huge hassle.
- CompUSA, CompUSA.com: This store (both online and brick-n-mortar) has one of the worst return policies on the face of the planet. Avoid them at all costs, no matter what you plan to buy. Even if the media is bad, you're stuck with it.
- UKDVDR.co.uk:
Some of their dye information has been incorrect in the recent past, and people receive something different than what they believed they were buying. Much of their better media has been replaced with low grade junk.
