Tracks can "skip" when audio tracks are not properly gapped. Many audio CDs improperly lack the short 1-2 second gap between tracks. Copies will often try to re-add the gaps, and the result is audio that gets cut off. It was a big problem back in the early 1990s, and tech was young. My first burning software was in DOS, and it could not copy a certain White Zombie album very well. I remember have to rip each audio track -- yes, in DOS -- and re-creating a new CD. The direct copy method gave me a crappy copy.
I don't know that I could blame the burner on this one.
Verbatim CD-R should be good. But let's double-check --- are these "made in Taiwan", perhaps? Made in China? (eww, yucky) Or somewhere else?
