That is really strange, I have pretty much ONLY installed on Windows XP Pro systems. If you're following the WinXP instructions to the letter, and it gives this problem, I would say to look at the service pack installations. Is SP1 or SP2 installed? I've done it on SP1 installs, never messed with the in-your-face-yet-unneeded SP2. Also, verify that WINDOWS MEDIA ENCODER and WMP9 and DIRECTX 9 are all properly updated on Windows.
