On occasion I have the need to capture and record audio and video which appears on web pages. YouTube videos are an example, but basically if it appears on my screen I want the ability to capture and record it.

I have just received an email from Total Recorder for their product which purports to do what I have described above. They are charging $54 for this product.

Does anyone have any experience with this product or any comments or advice?

I've never heard of it.

For at last 3 years now, however, I've used the payware Replay Media Catcher with great success.
Applian, the maker of RMC, has proven themselves to be a leader in this area, and their software is well known and well respected.
You can buy it for $39.95 from them directly at: http://applian.com/download-videos

In the few instances that it fails (very rare), I'm able to use the freeware URL Snooper, to sniff out the URL and manually download the video.
See http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper

For Hulu downloading, you'll need to use the dedicated freeware Stream Transport, which is also able to capture videos from some sites. It's not as reliable as RMC, outside for Hulu. See http://www.streamtransport.com

For Youtube downloading, and some of those other "viral video" type sites, I find it easiest to just use the free KeepVid service which gives you a download link to save the video. See http://www.keepvid.com

Between these few tools, I'm never left unable to download clips.

I'll contact the maker of Total Recorder, High Criteria, and see if they want to submit a full copy for our review. (We don't review trial copies -- there's really no point in that.)
