Hi Members,

:)

My friend "Rob" who's 63 years old, who has a DELL tower PC, and it's nearly 10 year old since 2003. He just bought an 80 GB hard drive from Amazon site.

The problem he's experiencing, is the DELL computer PC tower doesn't seem to respond, and it wouldn't allow him to install his Windows XP.

He sent me a screen shot of what he saw on the monitor screen.

I thought that maybe some of you member might be familar of.

I believe the brand makes on the hard drive he bought is "Blancco"???

Hope you're able to download or view the photo and I hope that you'll be able to read what it says on his computer monitor. I'm sure that you can in large the screen shot to see what it says.

I couldn't figure out what to do for Rob.

Hope you could help with answers for "Rob".

Thank you,
:)

"blancco" appears to be some sort of software diagnostic tool: http://www.blancco.com/us/frontpage/

Based on the blurry readout, it appears to have 12 hard drives installed? There's four obvious Western Digital drive shown. The image is too blurry to make out what the other drive information says. Rob would need to type this out to you in an email. It almost reads out as "4FLOBOLO", and Flobo is a data recovery tool.

Windows XP not installing can mean several things -- some related to the hard drive, some not.

Hi Kpmdia,

Okay, here's the LATEST from "Rob".

He talked to the people that sent him the hard drive.
He explained the problem, and they said exactly what you said.
His computer only has one hard drive, NOT more than one.

So, they told him that tney'll send him another one.

He got another hard drive from them on Wednesday.

When he installed it in his tower computer....

He got another message. This time in black screen.

The message says:

"Press any keys to boot from CD"

He did that with Windows XP CD, and the screen says:

"Press any keys to boot from CD.... NDLR is missing... Press Ctrl + ALL + Delete to restart."

He did that, and nothing happens.

Any suggestions for Rob???

Thanks,
ECruzDigitial

Kpmedia,

I found out what caused Rob's hard drive problem in which his Dell PC wouldn't allow him to install
Windows XP. See if you could figure out THIS ONE....

When he told me how he got the black screen message that says.

"Press any keys to boot from CD"

He did that with Windows XP CD, and the screen says:

"Press any keys to boot from CD.... NDLR is missing... Press Ctrl + ALL + Delete to restart."

He did that, and nothing happens.

Now I know why.... And my response to him is that HE'S SO STUPIDEST!!!

He told me that last night he was able to install Windows XP and then later on while it was in progress, he got tired, so he SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER!!!!

I told him and YELLED at him that he's soooo STUPID for doing that. I told him that's wny he got that black screen message because he shut down his comouter last night in the middle of the installation, and he was too tired!!!

I told him that if he was too tired, he should've let it continue installing windows.

Now, what he should do??? Now you know why he got that black screen message, today, this morning.

How stupidest he really is.

Hope you have answers on what to do with the 2nd hard drive he got.

Do you think he already ruin it, now???

Thanks,
ECruzDigital

There was a great big warning to NOT TURN OFF THE COMPUTER while it was being installed. Sheesh...

He can either reformat at start again -- noting that a reformat erases all data.
Or he can do a repair install, which may or may not work.

Did he just throw out the old hard drive? What about all of his documents, settings, software, etc? I know some people do that, but it just seems so strange to me. It's like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Why bother to fix it if you're just going to trash it in the process? May as well just buy a new computer if that's the case.

Since the install didn't properly finish, you would need to load from the install disc and perform a new Windows installation performing a full format of the drive. Remember to NEVER shut off a computer while it is installing any software or drivers. Especially the OS! :P
